Cucumbers are one of the most popular vegetables that are eaten throughout the year, so they are grown both in greenhouses and in the open ground on almost every garden plot. But sometimes, despite the fact that the gardener follows all the recommendations, the cucumber somehow wilt leaves. Let's determine the main reasons for this problem.
Why do leaves fade in cucumbers?
Gardeners have identified the following main reasons why cucumber leaves wilt:
- Non-observance of growing conditions:
- watering - insufficient moistening leads to the fact that the leaves begin to dry from the edge to the center, and also avoid getting moisture on them;
- small distance between plantings;
- incorrectly chosen location - if the leaves of the cucumber will be exposed to direct sun rays, then, most likely, they will very quickly wilt. Of great importance is the shape of the beds on which this crop is planted - too narrow and high lead to loss of necessary moisture, which leads to the withering of leaves and stems;
- oversaturation or lack of fertilizers ;
- hit herbicides - since this plant does not tolerate them at all;
- an improper neighborhood, namely planted near by tomatoes, since these plants need different humidity of air.
- fungal disease - fusarium wilt of cucumber, affecting greenhouse plants. You can distinguish it from a withered vertex, accompanied by decay of the stem in the root zone;
- white rot - leaves lose their turgor, become very soft, and then completely fall off, brown spots form in the radical zone;
- root rot is the main reason why the cucumber wilt and wither the lower leaves, if not processed at the time, then a whole whip dies;
- aphids - you can find it on the back of the sheets;
- mites.
Having determined the reason why the cucumber leaves wilted, measures should be taken to save the plant, since such a condition can lead to its death.
What should I do if the green leaves fade from the cucumbers?
If the reason is insufficient watering, then it is necessary to start watering the bushes as often as possible and often, so that moisture reaches the roots of the plant. In this case, you need to make sure that the water does not spread, but remains around the stem. For this, the bed should be even or you can even make it a small funnel.
When pesticides get on the leaves, it should be washed off as soon as possible from them, along with water they will soak deeply into the soil and become not dangerous for the cucumber.
When the leaves wither because of damage to the plant by disease, fungus or pests, it is very important to detect it as soon as possible and treat it with special means:
- root rot - sprayed with the drug "Trichodermin", which is an oat grain, covered with dry green mold. They are soaked and the diseased plant is treated with the resulting solution;
- aphids - soapy solution helps very effectively or you can buy special chemicals, for example, "Iskra";
- fungal diseases (fusarium wilt cucumber or white rot) - it is necessary to resort to chemicals such as "Fotosporin", "Kornevin", "Gitrauxin";
- Mites - sprinkle with infusion of onion husk.
To avoid these problems, it is necessary to dress seeds beforehand, to treat the soil before planting, and also periodically to spray the cucumber strand from the spray with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Before planting a cucumber in your garden area, you should definitely familiarize yourself with possible problems in growing it and methods for their elimination.
