When should I process strawberries in spring?
The treatment of strawberries against the weevil should be started as early as in the spring, before the appearance of the first leaves. Beetles, hibernating under strawberry bushes, wake up from hibernation when the ambient temperature rises to 8-10 ° C. It is very important not to miss this time and start spraying until the pests are still asleep. Early spring is the best time to use biologics. And the earlier you decide to process the strawberry from the weevil and start spraying it, the more effect will your actions bring.
The next stage in the struggle with the weevil is the moment 5-7 days before flowering, when the inflorescences of the strawberry are formed and are protruding. At this time, it is best to use insecticides.
How to deal with weevil on strawberries in the spring?
Most often in the fight against pests use insecticides: Intra-vir, Aktara, Nurell, Fufanon, etc. The preparation is dissolved in water in the proportions recommended by the manufacturer.
Practice shows that preparations of the so-called biological control of insects - "Entom-F" and "Nemabakt" - are very effective against weevil. They act for 2-3 years, populating the soil with living microorganisms eating larvae of harmful insects. Such biopreparations can be used to protect many garden plants from the bear, May bush, cabbage flies, thrips, wireworms.
Also, many people use "Fitoverm", "Akarin", "Iskra-bio" to protect strawberries.
Blossoming strawberries can not be sprayed from the weevil whatever: you need to have time to process it before flowering. Categorically unacceptable during this period are pesticides. But folk remedies can also be used for flowering:
- an infusion of wood ash;
- solution of ammonia (2 tablespoons are diluted in 10 liters of water) and iodine solution (1 teaspoon for the same amount of water) - alternate them, processing strawberries every 2 weeks;
- infusion of chilli peppers;
- solution of potassium permanganate (5 g per 10 liters of water).
Do not forget about the mechanical method of destroying beetles. In the early morning, you need to put a newspaper under the bushes of strawberries and shake the beetles sitting on the plant, and then destroy them. And on the garden with strawberries, you can plant onions and garlic, which with their smell will scare off pests.
