Wooden shelving with your own hands

In any of the apartments there are places that are not used. One such is the space on either side of the door. It can be used rationally, having put here a high rack for books and other trifles. Thus, everything you need is at hand and, at the same time, every thing will be in its place. Let's look at how to make a wooden rack with your own hands.

The order of manufacturing and assembly of the rack

As practice shows, in order to make a wooden shelf with your own hands, the following materials and tools will be needed:

  1. First, we collect the base of the rack. To do this, from the board, we cut out the details of the future rack by the dimensions you need and fasten them with screws 30 cm long. For a stronger connection before fixing the screws it is necessary to glue all the places with joinery glue. Remember that every meter in the base must be attached to a cross beam that will not allow the shelves to sag under any load. The corners of the base are strengthened with additional wooden jibs.
  2. Vertical side parts of the rack are cut from the plywood. With the help of the router we make grooves for the horizontal shelves in the sidewalls.
  3. Their same plywood must be cut off the shelves, insert them into the grooves and screw it with screws. The height of the shelves should be from 24 to 42 cm, then they can fit freely any book or magazine.
  4. We put the rack on the base and fasten them together. If possible, we attach the base to the wall.
  5. To give aesthetic appearance to our shelving, we laminate its chipboard laminated under a tree. For this, we attach six pieces of plywood to each vertical panel of the rack. They will ensure the reliability of mounting the finishing panel on the facade of the shelter.
  6. On this plywood we mount chipboard. We also decorate all shelves. For convenience, you can use a clamp.
  7. We decorate the upper part of the rack, adjacent to the ceiling , and the bottom at the floor with a wooden skirting board, which is fastened with small studs.
  8. This is how the wooden shelves made by themselves look like. It can store books and flowers, toys and tools. Such a rack can be used even in a garage or basement.
