Bondhus


In the Norwegian county of Hordaland, on the territory of the Folgefonna National Park (Folgefonna nasjonalpark) there is the Bondhus glacier . At its foot there is a lake of the same name.

General information about the attractions

The length of the mountain massif is about 4 km, and the height reaches 1100 m - this is the distance from the smallest point to the highest. It is a branch from the large glacier Folgefonna, which ranks third in Norway in scale.

Bondhus is located in the south-western part of the country and belongs to the commune of Quinnherad. The lake together with the glacier is located on the coast of the fjord Maurangsfjorden (Maurangsfjorden) near the village of Sundal.

What is Bondhus famous for?

This area is very picturesque, it is like a magnet attracts travelers from all over the planet. It is known for the fact that:

  1. In 1863 a special road was erected on this territory, through which ice was transported. The cargo was mined in the Bondhus mountain range and sent for export.
  2. Currently, this road does not carry cargo transportation. It is used as an unusual tourist attraction . On it you can ride and explore the beautiful scenery.
  3. The reservoir feeds on meltwater from the glacier, in which, as if in a mirror, a mountain massif is reflected.

How to get there?

From the nearest town Sundal to the Bondhus Valley, a picturesque road leads through the forest. The distance is about 2 km, and it can be easily reached on foot. Climbing the glacier begins near the lake.
