Boycott "Oscar" is gaining new momentum

Sir Ian McKellen, who played the wise wizard Gandalf in the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings", supported the now popular boycott "Oscar" -2016. Studying and commenting on the nominees, he noted that throughout the history of the award the golden statuette has not been appropriated to people with non-traditional orientation, which can be regarded as infringement of the rights of homosexuals on a par with racism.

Ian McKellen is an open gay

In this he confessed to the BBC radio station during his speech in 1988. The Briton, awarded the knightly title, is a vivid activist, a fighter for the rights and freedoms of homosexuals, he supports all sorts of gay parades, actions and manifestos all over the world. In addition, the actor called Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, a "coward" for the fact that he refused to hold such an event in the capital.

Probably, Ian's indifference is based on his personal history. The minority rights activist was nominated twice for this award, but he never got the coveted statue.

Boycotting "Oscar"

We remind you that the scandal surrounding the "Oscar" erupted after the promulgation of the list of applicants for the main nominations of the award: the list does not have any black representatives of the film industry. Will Smitt and his wife announced a boycott of the annual ceremony, which some of their colleagues already supported. Iain McKellen said that it is almost impossible to get the most desired award for national minorities: 94% of the jury members of the film academy are white middle-aged men. But the outrageous American media tycoon Donald Trump laughed at this action.
