Caesarea National Park

The Caesarea National Park is located between Tel Aviv and Haifa . Once upon a time there was the ancient city of Caesarea of ​​Palestine, which was destroyed during the Crusades and was partly flooded with sea level changes.   1. The local city port is built by hand, somewhat like a harbor, which becomes an obstacle to storms and high waves. Here, for the first time, Roman concrete was used, which was prepared from stone, lime and volcanic sand. Thus, not only was the seashore strengthened in the city, such concrete blocks became a construction site for many buildings of the Herodian era.
  2. In the park Caesarea was excavated one of the ancient theaters , discovered his Antonio Frova in 1959. According to estimates, for five hundred years the theater fulfilled its mission, it was decorated with columns of marble and porphyry and housed about 5 thousand spectators. Archaeological excavations have not been abandoned, the theater has been restored and now concerts of different directions are held there.
  3. The palace of King Herod is on the reef and was partially flooded by the sea. It consisted of two parts, at the entrance to the western part you can see mosaic floors with different geometric shapes. On the top floor is a huge hall, which is surrounded by smaller rooms. Nearby was discovered a racetrack, which is located along the sea shore. He also served for the king as an amphitheater, at which gladiatorial fights took place and bloody views with animals.

Caesarea, a national park, is located half an hour's drive from Tel Aviv . You can get there by train or car, in the latter case you should follow the road on the highway Tel Aviv-Haifa.
