Abrasha Park

One of the most picturesque landmarks of Israel is Abrasha Park, which is located in the old port of Jaffa . It was created in 1970 thanks to the charity of Abraham Shekhterman, who at that time served as deputy mayor of the city and director of the Jaffa Development Society. As a result, it was decided to perpetuate his name in the park's name.

History and description of the park

Abrasha Park is located on a picturesque hill, which local workers nicknamed Mount Glee. The size of the park is two football fields connected together. By age, this is one of Tel Aviv 's youngest attractions , because it is only four decades old.

Before the territory began to ennoble, the hill had a bad reputation. Since in 1936, due to military actions on the part of the Arabs, the Jewish population was taken out, the port came to desolation. The sheepfold on which "Garden on the Hill" is now located was chosen by uncivilized people, even policemen were afraid to approach.

In the middle of the last century, the first attempts were made to improve the territory. To turn an empty hill into a fragrant, it took a lot of resources. A lot of strength and ideas in this project was invested by Avraham Shekhterman, for which he even received a prestigious award.

Thanks to the efforts of the public figure and his associates in the park, ladders and paths appeared, for the construction of which stones were used from the houses that once lived here. On the hill a comfortable viewing platform was created. Throughout the park plants are planted, which were chosen considering the climatic zone. The peculiarity of green spaces is that they are not afraid of the burning rays of the sun and sea moisture.

Purpose of the park

In the park, not only tourists walk, but also various ceremonial events, including weddings, for which there is a full entourage. Beautiful photos are obtained near the sculpture "Sea Breeze" , located near the entrance to the park. This sculpture of the mother with the child was installed in 2010.

The main landmark of the park are the "Gate of Faith" , created in 1975 by sculptor Daniel Kafri. On the arch, a plot about the acquisition of the promised land is carved, the composition is set on stones taken from the Wailing Wall . Tourists have this custom: go through the arch 3 times, go around on the left side to face her, close your eyes and make a wish.

In Abrasha Park should also look at the sundial , the figures in which are replaced by the signs of the zodiac. To find out the exact time, it is necessary to find the Virgin, stand facing her (in the middle of the circle), and the shadow will indicate the exact time.
