Cherry "Zhukovskaya"

In the Research Institute of Genetics and Selection Michurin, many varieties of cherries were bred. One of them is the "Zhukovskaya" cherry variety. It is familiar to the inhabitants of the central zone of Russia, the Central Chernozem, Central, Middle - and Lower Volga regions. This variety was bred long enough, back in 1947 and is still popular, thanks to excellent taste qualities. The author of the variety was S.V. Zhukov and E.N. Kharitonov.

Description of cherry "Zhukovskaya"

Like many trees that were bred in the beginning and the middle of the last century, Cherry "Zhukovskaya" has a rather sprawling crown, although not too thick. The tree is strong and reaches a height of 3-4 meters. The shoots of this cherry have a brownish-red hue, with small inclusions of yellowish color.

Sheet leaves of the Zhukovsky variety are concave inwards, with a very original openwork carved edge. Petioles are long, not very thick and not pubescent. The most valuable thing in cherry is its fruit. In "Zhukovskaya" they are just a feast for - the minimum weight of one berry is 4 grams, and the maximum - 7 grams. This is a very good indicator for stone fruit, and such a cherry can be compared with the fruit of a large sweet cherry.

Important flavor and nutritional qualities of cherry "Zhukovskaya". On a five-point grading system, she received the highest score due to her excellent sweet and sour taste and dark-burgundy pulp, from which the juice of a rich hue is obtained. From such a cherry you get a fragrant jam and beautiful compotes for the winter, and if you freeze it, then summer gifts can be enjoyed in the winter.

Blossom "Zhukovskaya" in mid-May and in July you can collect a generous harvest, which firmly holds on the petiole and is not susceptible to fall. Fruiting this sort of cherry begins in the fourth year after landing.

The life of such a tree is 20 years, after which it ceases to bear fruit well and disappears. The peak of fruiting falls on the 15th year of the life of the cherry. From a tree of this age, 12 to 30 kg of fruit are harvested.

Sprayers for cherry "Zhukovskaya" are not required, as this sort is self-pollinating. The tree is resistant to such stone problems as coccomicosis and ring spot, unlike the popular Vladimirovka and Lyubskaya, which have similar taste qualities. The disadvantages of this remarkable variety include a large bone in the fetus and not very good winter hardiness of the kidneys - some of them may freeze in the frosty spring.
