Spain is a country with a rich cultural heritage. One of the world-famous representatives of the kingdom can be called Salvador Dali - a painter and sculptor, working in the style of surrealism at the beginning of the last century. The artist was so loved by his compatriots that tourists are often invited to visit while visiting the sights of Barcelona and the Dali Museum. True, he is not located in the capital of the Autonomous Region of Catalonia, and in a small town - Figueras.
Dali Museum in Figueres - a bit of history
The fact that the place of election of the museum of the great creator became the town of Figueras is not an accident. The fact is that it was here on May 11 in 1904, Salvador Dali was born here. In his youth, the artist took leave of his homeland for a long time, but, having lived in Paris and New York, eventually returned to the quiet Figueres. Here the newly-made mayor of the city asked Dali to present one of his paintings to the local museum. To which the reaction of the eminent painter was quite approving. Moreover, he was ready to present masterpieces to the whole museum. As a result, it was decided to create the first in Spain Dali Museum by joint efforts of the artist and local architects.
According to the plan of El Salvador, the building of the museum was built on the site of the ruins of the city theater Prinsipal. In general, the construction of the museum lasted for as long as 14 years, as there was always a shortage of money. A well-known artist had to spend his own fortune, although he also received donations from fans and friends, as well as state subsidies.
Finally in 1974 the Salvador Dalí Museum in Figueres finally opened its doors to all comers.

Salvador Dali insisted that the museum dedicated to his work be called a museum-theater. It's not just that it was built on the site of the old theater. The entrance to the museum is from the ticket office, from where visitors enter all the Halls of the amazing museum. Here, as it were, you find yourself in an absurdity, consisting of the subtlest facets of hallucinations, dreams, and nightmares, where such familiar landmarks seem to dissolve in this surreal maze. In the Hall of Masterpieces one can see the creations of the master's predecessors: from El Greco to Michelangelo. Visitors will walk around the Hall of Trajan, along May West Hall, furniture in which resembles the features of a Hollywood diva, pass the Hall of Fish Ranges, walk through the Hall of Drawings, the Treasure Hall to contemplate not only the pictures of the creator, but his sculptures, scenery, wall drawings. Among the famous masterpieces of the master you can name "Ghost in sexual shape", "Self-portrait with fried bacon", "Self-portrait with Humanism", "Atomic Leda" and many others.
At the end of his outlandish journey, the visitor enters the "World" - an oval-shaped inner courtyard, the walls of which are decorated with niches with sculptures.
How to get to the Dali Museum?
You can get to Figueras from Barcelona , renting a car or arriving on a comfortable train AVE in just an hour and a half. From the station to the final point, you have to walk 15 minutes on foot. However, you do not even need to ask the passers-by where the Dali museum is located. The fact is that in the town everywhere you come across the original signs in the form of the recognizable image of the master of surrealism: in the shop window, polished column, etc.
