How to lay tiles on the floor?

Laying tiles on the floor does not require any special knowledge. It is enough to buy all the necessary tools and follow certain rules of work. To do this, the main thing is to qualitatively prepare the surface and choose a suitable mortar and tile for work. Below we will consider the process of laying tiles with our own hands using the example of ordinary square tiles without drawing a picture.

Laying of tiles with your own hands

  1. Before you put tiles on the floor, you should carefully level the floor and remove all the dirt. It is advisable to even walk the vacuum cleaner before applying the solution. If possible, it is necessary to pour the floor with cement or make a screed to make the surface as flat as possible.
  2. The masters have great advice on how to lay the tile: even before selecting a pattern and shape, it is worth to measure the area of the room and choose the most optimal tile size, so that the waste is smaller and does not have to be cut down much.
  3. Equally important in the question of how to lay the tile correctly is the tool. A putty knife, a rubber hammer, a tile cutter or a saw for tile (if the area is large), as well as plastic crosses-all this should be purchased in advance.
  4. So, the first step in the process of laying the tile on the floor is to check the prepared surface.
  5. Next, you need to make a so-called layout. We need to find the intersection of two lines with maximum lengths. Work should be from the wall, where the largest number of whole tiles. If the width of the last row is less than two inches, it is desirable to subtract this width from the first row.
  6. The next stage of laying the tile with your own hands is the preparation of the mortar. Before you mix all the special construction mixer, give the glue soak up water for about five to ten minutes so that all components are activated.
  7. Now, with a notched trowel, we apply the mortar to the floor surface and proceed to laying the tiles. We start from the place where the maximum number of whole tiles. If necessary, we work with a tile cutter or a so-called wet saw.
  8. To compact the tiles into their place, a rubber hammer is ideal. They are as if tapping the tile until the moment when he takes his position. If the tile does not want to occupy its position, there are two possible reasons: either too much glue, or the surface is not aligned properly.
  9. To make the surface smooth, we must control the entire level.
  10. Between the tiles we insert the crosses so that the gaps are equal.
  11. After you have finished laying the tile on the floor, you should immediately remove excess mix. And after about an hour to walk a damp cloth and clean the divorce from it.
