Initiative is punishable

They frightened ordinary employees so that no one wants to take responsibility. Heads of organizations are surprised at why employees are so afraid of overworking and do not show initiative. The latter, as is known, is punishable. People have learned it well. Hush the water, below the grass. In the army, the meaning of the expression "initiative is punishable" is very simple: once it showed activity in a case, in the future you carry constant responsibility for it. The impudence of initiative is the principle of a bureaucratic system, of any hierarchical organization. It requires a lack of innovation and high accuracy in the case indicated by the regulations. The more stringent the set of instructions and regulations, the less freedom for initiative. Some leaders of organizations do not like strongly "smart" and active workers. Those who have shown themselves and their initiative become a potential competitor and a candidate for the title of leader. Not every leader will like this. The work collective also generously gives gossip and rumors to those who "decided to curry favor". Not everyone is able to withstand such pressure. So it turns out to protect yourself, it's better not to stand out and do exactly what is written in the job description.

Why is the initiative punishable?

  1. Firstly, it is not always appropriate. This manifestation of activity is rarely welcomed, for example, in the civil service and in companies with strict rules and traditions, unconditional subordination. Relevance of the initiative is closely related to the position of the initiator.
  2. Secondly, the initiative should be responsible. Going to the boss with new business ideas, clearly formulate your proposals, make the necessary calculations and be sure to find evidence of the effectiveness of innovation. With this approach, the chances of success will increase noticeably.
  3. Thirdly, the initiative should not go too far beyond your authority. When a sales employee advises the general director to follow his recommendations in resolving work issues, then such activity can be taken "hostile".

An initiative person is different in his ability to think differently, to see nonstandard solutions to problems. The minds of others, as a rule, are annoying. And the principle of punishment is simple: you will offer you a commission, you will do badly you will be punished. Whatever they say in society, proactive people have more career opportunities and an interesting future.
