Millesgården

Stockholm is a treasure trove for tourists. The sights of the Swedish capital are amazing and fascinating. A small part of the admiration is given to those significant places created by one person or a tandem of masters. This pearl in Stockholm is the Millesgården Park Museum.

History of creation

Millesgården is the brainchild of the creative tandem of Karl Milles and his wife Olga. In 1906 the couple bought the land and blunted to the embodiment of their creative dream. Evert Milles, the sculptor's own brother, acted as an architect, transforming the usual landscape into an artfully designed exhibition space. Millesgården originates from 1936, when it was transferred to the ownership of the city. As a park of sculptures, it began to function since 1950. The open-air museum occupies an area of 18 hectares. Today on its wide terraces there are exposition rooms.

Art Gallery by the Sea

Millesgården, the same museum of Karl Milles in Stockholm, is a real Mecca for lovers of sculpture. The colorful and picturesque nature of Sweden is harmoniously combined with sophisticated works of art. Sculptural compositions and an abundance of fountains make the landscape so charming and fascinating that there is no desire to leave the park.

The sculptor carried out a grandiose work, giving his masterpieces sophistication and charm. In the museum you can see:

  1. An embodiment of the author's creative fantasies. The most work is called "The Hand of God." It is located on a certain elevation and is made in the form of a huge palm, in the center of which is a human figure, frozen in some kind of emotional ecstasy. Around this composition you can see a number of sculptures in the form of dancing Angels.
  2. Monuments. The Creator worked both on the reconstruction of his fictional images, and on the embodiment of real historical figures and mythological characters. Despite the fact that the latter was given to him somewhat more difficult, another of the outstanding works of the sculptor is a monument to King Gustav I Vasa. However, this masterpiece does not adorn at all Millesgården, being part of the exposition of the Northern Museum.

Milles Museum can be visited all year round. Admission for adults costs less than € 2, children and teenagers under 19 can come here for free.
