Paget's Cancer

Everyone knows that a woman who is properly health-related should regularly undergo a medical examination. A visit to a mammalian doctor will help to notice the development of tumors in the breast and save a woman's life. Breast cancer of the nipple, or Paget's cancer, refers to a fairly rare disease, affecting mainly patients older than 50 years. Very rare cases of disease in young people, at the age of 20 years. It affects the cancer of Paget not only women, but also men, and the representatives of the stronger sex proceeds more aggressively, quickly penetrating into the lymphatic system.

Paget's Cancer Symptoms

The early stages of the disease have nonspecific symptoms, which do not cause anxiety and are not the reason for the visit to the mammologist. At the beginning of the disease around the nipple there is a slight reddening of the skin, the skin begins to peel and irritation occurs. Usually, these manifestations disappear after a while on their own or after using various corticosteroid drugs.

The next stage of Paget's cancer is characterized by pain in the nipple, sensations of tingling, burning and itching. From the nipple appear serous-hemorrhagic character, it changes its shape (retracted or becomes flat). The tissues of the nipple become inflamed, ulcers, crusts and erosions form on its surface. When removing the crusts, a wet, wet surface is exposed under them. Paget's cancer usually affects the nipple of only one breast, but there are cases of simultaneous development in both nipples.

In the later stages of the disease, there is an eczematous lesion of the skin of the mammary gland, and bloody discharge from the nipple abundantly.

Paget's cancer - treatment

The most common treatment for Paget's disease is surgery - removing the affected areas. The mammary gland is completely removed in the case when breast cancer is detected in addition to the nipple cancer. In this case, the doctor removes the breast, fiber under the pectoral muscles and axillary lymph nodes. In the event that the cancer affects only the nipples, it is possible to remove only the mammary gland or nipple with a near-suction areola. Surgical intervention is complemented by radiotherapy, which is designed to prevent relapse of the disease.

Due to the fact that patients rarely seek help at the initial stages of the disease, the prognosis for breast nipple cancer is complex. Despite the conduct of surgery, the possibility of relapse is very high.
