The history of plum growing in Russia began in the era of the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich, by order of which the first seedlings were brought into the country. Since then, not one century has passed, for which of these seedlings grew real gardens. Thanks to the efforts of breeders, a lot of interesting varieties of plums appeared, many of which became real popular favorites. With one of these varieties, we decided to introduce you today. Plum "Volga beauty" was born almost eighty years ago - in 1939. The father of this variety was the famous scientist breeding breeder EP Finaev, who conducted an experiment at the Samara experimental garden station to cross the varieties " Renklode Bove" and "Skorospelka early". The experiment proved to be very successful - the plum obtained absorbed the best qualities of the parent plants: high frost resistance, early maturity, high yield and excellent taste qualities of the fruit. In 1955, the "Volga Beauty" was sent for testing, and already in 1965 included in the state variety register.

Plum trees "Volga Beauty" are quite large in size, their height can exceed 5 and more meters. That is why for this variety an annual forming pruning is mandatory, without which the care of the tree will be repeatedly hampered. To form the crown is best through a low-floor or low-tier system. Pruning not only facilitates harvesting, but also has a positive effect on the yield and quality of the fruit. The "Volga beauty" grows fast enough, forming a magnificent spherical crown of medium density in a few years. Shoots and branches have a gray-brown color. The leaves are large, broad, ovoid in shape and painted in a light green color. On the outside of the edge of the sheet frames the serration. Fruits of the variety "Volga Beauty" are large in size (on average 35-40 grams), they have a round-oval shape. The skin of the fruit is of medium thickness and is easily separated from the juicy sourish-sweet pulp. Coloration of the skin is continuous red-violet with a light matte coating. The stone of the plum "Volga beauty" is small oval in shape and easily separates from the pulp. To flowering, "Volga Beauty" starts in the second half of May, and the first fruits can be enjoyed already in the first days of August. At the time of fruiting, this variety enters the year 4-6 after planting, after which it yields annually. Yield in the variety is quite high: from young trees you can remove at least 10 kg of fruit, and from mature - 15-25 kg.

Suffice it to tolerate this variety and winter frosts, and summer droughts. The experience of growing the "Volga Beauty" in various regions shows that only in periods of particularly severe cold it partially freezes the fruit buds, while the tree itself suffers minimal. During periods of prolonged drought, the variety is able to survive without additional watering. Another plus of plum "Volga beauty" can be called its high resistance to diseases and pests. So, this variety practically does not suffer from gray rot and gum.
