Works in the garden in spring

Spring is very unpredictable due to its weather, often snow and rain and frosts are strong. Therefore, work in the garden in early spring can begin only where the weather permits.

What should you do in the garden in early spring?

First of all, it is necessary to remove all snow retarders: now we must wait for the melting of snow, and not delay it on the ground. From the branches on the trees you need to shake off the snow. Wet and heavy, it can break branches. If the branches have already bent to the ground, they must be raised to the supports.

In the spring, rodents awaken, hungry, in their holes and can eat the bark of trees. To prevent this, it is necessary to trample snow around tree trunks.

Carefully inspect the bushes of currant and gooseberry. They wake up one of the first, so now they need to be cut, removing unnecessary and dry branches.

In March, you need to ease shelter on roses, to avoid damage to branches under the weight of snow.

Conduct an audit of your garden equipment and buy, if something is missing.

If beds with strawberries are flooded with thawed water, you must urgently remove this water to avoid decaying roots of strawberries.

Branches of fruit trees need to be inspected to identify pests that wintered on them. In March-April, work is done in the garden to prune broken, dry branches. In addition to this sanitary pruning, it is also possible to prune the tree crowns.

Starting from the second half of March, if weather permits, you can start spraying the garden with a solution of copper sulfate.

Snow should not be taken out of the garden in any case. On the contrary, in order to stock up the melt water useful for the garden, it is necessary to collect snow in all free capacities, adding it to them as the melting process.

At the end of March it's time to clear the snow from the trunks of fruit trees. If there is protection from rodents, then it must also be removed.

The whitewashing of trees in March

The purpose of spring whitewashing of trees is to protect the bark from sun burns and protect tree trunks from pests. Late whitewashing is done only for decorative purposes. Therefore, spring whitewashing should be started as early as possible, even before the end of snow melting. Whitewash is not recommended only for young trees, which have a smooth bark. In this case, there may be a blockage of pores on the bark of the tree, its gas exchange will slow down, the tree will weaken and grow worse.

Whitewashing should be done only in dry weather. First of all, around the tree it is necessary to put the film and brush carefully to clean the tree trunk from the dead bark and moss. These must be burned. To cover the cracks on the bark of the tree with a garden fog. And only when the putty completely dries, you can start whitewashing. Blanch the trees with a brush or spray. A solution for whitewash can be any - from the store or homemade. It should only be remembered that bleach is not suitable for these purposes.

Fertilizing trees in spring

The first spring top dressing is distributed in the snow under the trees and shrubs. Fertilizer is scattered at the rate of three handfuls per Adult tree. This is more convenient than on the decayed earth. Snow will melt and penetrate the earth along with the fertilizer. Nitrogen fertilizers, as well as complex fertilizers, are applied in this way. But if there was a lot of snow or heavy frosts, then this method of fertilizing can not be applied, since fertilizers can be washed with large melt water. Adult trees are fed, evenly distributing the fertilizer along the edge of the tree trunk. It is there that the root system of the tree is located.

In early spring, all of nature is just beginning to wake up after winter. In March and early April, gardeners need to carry out a whole range of works on the site in order to help the garden in this spring awakening.
