Rules for playing chess

If you do not know how exciting it is to spend an evening with the whole family, try playing chess. In order to master this intellectual old game, it is not necessary to have a high IQ. It is important to learn the basic rules of the game of chess - and with a little effort, you can soon come up with new combinations of moves no worse than experienced players.

The basics of the game for beginners

The chessboard includes 64 squares, where the white fields alternate with the dark ones. Horizontal lines are numbered from one to eight, and vertical rows are denoted by Latin letters from a to h. Each board field is assigned its coordinates, formed from the name of the vertical strip and the number of the horizontal strip on the board, for example, a7, f5, etc.

Before the start of the game is not only to learn the rules of the game and understand how to play chess, but also correctly place the board. It is put so that each participant on the right side has a corner field of white color. There are two players: one manages figures of white color, and the second - figures of dark (black) color. All figures have their own unique names: king, queen (queen), elephants (officers), rooks (tours), horses and pawns. The game involves one king (the designation for the recording of Kr) and the queen (F), two knights (K), two rooks (L), two elephants (C) and eight pawns (n.) On each side-16 figures in all.

The rules of playing chess for beginners and children: just about the complex

Initially, all the pieces on the board are exposed as shown below.

All of them go in a special way, peculiar only to them:

  1. The elephant goes diagonally to any of the fields from the place where it is located.
  2. The rook can be moved to any field in a vertical or horizontal direction, starting from the place where it stands.
  3. The queen moves freely to any field diagonally, either vertically or horizontally.
  4. Adults, telling the rules of playing chess for children, should pay attention to the fact that an elephant, a rook or queen can not be rearranged through the field if it is occupied by an enemy figure.
  5. The horse goes in the form of the letter "G", occupying one of the fields closest to its location, but it should not be located on the same diagonal, horizontal or vertical.
  6. A pawn can only be moved forward in several ways. From the initial position, this shape can be moved to 1 or 2 fields forward in the same vertical if they are free from other shapes. In any other position, the pawn walks the same way, but only on one field. This figure can remove the opponent's figure if it is in front of the pawn on the adjacent vertical in the diagonal direction.
  7. According to the basic rules of chess, a pawn that has reached the most extreme horizontal position from its original position is transformed into an elephant, rook, horse or queen of the same color.
  8. The king moves to any adjacent field, if the opponent does not threaten him in the new position.

Also, this key figure can be moved by castling.

If the king and rook of the same color occupy the starting position, they are moved to the extreme horizontals: from the initial field the king is rearranged to 2 fields towards the tour, and then the tour "jumps" through the king to the next field near him.

Doing the shah and mat

Shah is the attack of enemy figures on the king. In this situation, knowing the rules of the game is very important to understand how to learn how to play chess. You can not make a move by another figure, except the king, until you take him out from under the Shah. With the help of a black elephant, you can easily create a shahovaya situation for the white king, as, however, and vice versa: a white officer threatens the black king.

In the following pictures, the shah is declared black figures, but they are protected from it by moving the elephant to c5.

A mat is a shah that can not be neutralized. The declared mat is considered a win. The classical version: the queen attacks the king, who has no ways to retreat. Remove the queen from the board the king is also not able, because it protects the white king.

The mat can also be placed with the help of a rook: the black pawns f7, g7 and h7 interfere with the key figure of black from escaping.
