Subcutaneous injection

The injections are intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous. It would seem that the latter are the simplest and perform them easily yourself. Nevertheless, there are a number of rules that must be followed so as not to infect the infection and get a positive result from the procedure. Let's consider in detail the technique of subcutaneous injection.

Subcutaneous injection - master class

To perform the procedure, you will need:

Before proceeding to the procedure, thoroughly wash your hands and wipe the skin with a disinfectant solution.

Here's how to do subcutaneous injections:

  1. Spread the towel on the table, lay out all the tools on it in a convenient order for you. Check the tightness of the syringe package for subcutaneous injection. If it is broken - you can not use the instrument!
  2. Open the ampoule with the drug and lower it with the open tip down. Holding the syringe with the needle up, remove the protective cap. Insert the needle into the ampoule with the drug and, slowly pushing the plunger, draw in the syringe the necessary volume of the drug. If the drug is not in the ampoule, but in a vial sealed with a rubber stopper, it is forbidden to open the container. The needle is pierced by a stopper, holding the bottle upside down.
  3. Check if there is air in the syringe. To do this, hold the tool with the needle up, push the plunger. If there is air in the syringe body, it will exit the needle. Press on the piston until the droplets of the drug come out of the needle hole.
  4. Without releasing the syringe from the hand, wipe the place of the injection with a cotton ball, previously moistened with alcohol. If there is no possibility to purchase medical alcohol, ask sterile alcoholic napkins in the pharmacy. Wear the used ball or napkin in the tray.
  5. Treated skin is easily clamped between the forefinger and the thumb. Should get a small bump. Attention! Watch for the softness of the fold - if it is too dense, then you have captured muscle tissue along with the fatty layer.
  6. The technique of subcutaneous injection involves the introduction of a needle at an angle of 45 or 90 degrees. After insertion of the needle, release the skin fold and slowly press the plunger of the syringe.
  7. Attach a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to the injection site and gently remove the needle. A cotton swab can be attached to the patient's skin with a sterile patch.
