Table top with own hands

Designing furniture with one's own hand is not just a way to save money. Making the table top with your own hands will be quite exciting. Traditionally, choose wood, ceramic tile or work with an artificial stone. But all these materials, although lend themselves to layman, but require certain knowledge. In our case, we will try to make the countertop with our own hands in a much simplified version. Here you do not need any knowledge or skills from the construction industry.

How to make a table top with your own hands?

  1. The first thing that we will have to do is form the future table-top. For this purpose, MDF or chipboard sheets are suitable. The surface should be smooth. The dimensions of the large slabs fully correspond to the desired shape of the finished countertop. It is either measured by the old table, or at the design stage it is counted.
  2. The height of the beads will depend on the desired thickness of our plate
  3. From the cut pieces under the kitchen countertop, made by ourselves, we will assemble the frame. Pre-drill the holes, then screw the screws. With this approach, the plates will never crack, if you make an effort.
  4. As soon as the frame for making the table top with your own hands will be assembled, we proceed to the preparation of an even surface for pouring. We take something like a sawdust tile and level it with a level.
  5. So, all the level laid out, the frame is also ready. The further stage of creation of a kitchen countertop by own hands - preparation of all it under pouring. So that when pouring concrete does not pour out and do not get rough edges, we will work through all the silicone joints without exception. This is also an excellent way to give the finished construction a more smooth shape. Silicone is applied by means of a dispenser and distributed with a finger.
  6. Now your task is to distribute a special liquid all over the surface, so that you can easily remove the finished structure. All this is sold in a construction shop and a consultant will help you acquire the necessary.
  7. Well and now the most important moment in manufacturing of a table-top for kitchen by own hands - pouring with concrete.
  8. The easiest way to work is to use a small concrete mixer. All information regarding the preparation and use of the finished solution is on the package. If there is too much water, the result will be somewhat unstable.
  9. The process of pouring the kitchen countertop, made by own hands, goes in two stages: pour half the mold, then put the reinforcing mesh, and then the second half of the solution. The mesh itself should be cut a couple of centimeters less, so that it does not stick out at the ends of the plate.
  10. With the help of special equalizers we work the surface properly, so that there is no air left in the solution. For this purpose, just use a wooden board or manual grinding.
  11. Approximately here such a picture should be obtained after all the leveling works. So you can safely leave the solution to freeze.
  12. We cover all with polyethylene, then the concrete will not dry up. In a few days you can safely remove the stove.
  13. We are developing our skeleton.
  14. This will look like frozen air bubbles, if not enough to work out the solution.
  15. If a lot of such voids were formed on the surface, they are removed by grinding. You can use it as an emery paper, and here are such circles with a diamond crumb.
  16. After the surface has been ground, it is treated with sealant in a few fairly thin layers.
  17. With the help of silicone, we set the countertop, made by ourselves, into its place.
  18. It remains only to cover the stove with special wax and everything is ready!
