Tachycardia - first aid at home

In an adult healthy person, the heart muscle contracts at a frequency of 50 to 100 beats per minute. Tachycardia is the pathological increase of this parameter. Often, the disease occurs seizures, during which the patient is difficult to breathe, pulse and heart rate is increasing. It is important to note immediately when tachycardia began - first aid at home, correctly provided, allows avoiding complications and the need for hospitalization.

First aid in case of an attack of tachycardia

If the symptoms of the disease in question occur suddenly, periodically, its paroxysmal form takes place. In such situations, attacks are irregular, provoked by physical or emotional overstrain, lack of sleep, overwork and other factors.

First aid for paroxysmal tachycardia:

  1. Provide fresh cool air.
  2. Remove or unfasten the tight clothes.
  3. Lie on a horizontal surface.
  4. Tilt your head back.
  5. Apply a cold compress ("ice collar") to the forehead and neck.
  6. Take a deep breath, stretch the abdominal muscles, hold your breath for 15 seconds and exhale slowly. Repeat several times.
  7. With your thumbs, press strongly on the eyeballs.
  8. Wash yourself with very cold water or dip your face in it for half a minute.

If the described measures are ineffective and the pulse continues to increase, exceeding 120 beats per minute, a medical team should be called immediately.

What should I take with tachycardia during first aid?
