Textured plaster

Modern building technologies have become so advanced, even the decoration of walls can be carried out in diverse techniques. One of the most diverse ways of finishing the walls was textured plaster. It is called so because it has a unique relief texture that can simulate a tarnished or chopped stone, a world map, a Moroccan, a calcareous mazanka, a wood texture or a piece of paper.

Decorative plaster has many varieties and performs functions that can not take on painting or wallpapering. The main advantages of such plaster are:

Using textured plaster it is possible to add unique notes to the room and emphasize the personal design. In addition, plaster can be decorated in the form of a panel, the edges of which decorate with a painting or decorative frame.

Textured plaster - types

The main component of this finishing material is mineral granules, which take part in the formation of the relief. Different chemical additives determine the level of density. The binding component can be acrylic lime, polymers, epoxy resin or polyurethane. Plaster is classified by the type of binder:

  1. Acrylic . The basis here is acrylic resin. Such a plaster is quite elastic, has a small steam-passing capacity and is resistant to deformations of the walls. The disadvantages are flammability and inability to use on facades with mineral wool.
  2. Silicone . The basis is silicone resin. This material provides mud and water repellent coating, a high degree of adhesion to any substrate. Silicone plaster is well served by washing and has the longest service period. Disadvantages - high cost and the need for a special silicone primer.
  3. Silicate textured plaster for walls. The basis is a "liquid" potassium glass. This plaster is not wetted by water, does not crack and does not attract dust. To apply a silicate coating you need to have the appropriate experience, as the composition dries quickly, and a silicate primer is required.

The main disadvantage of all types of plaster is the high price and high material consumption per square meter of area. The texture of the decorative plasters is determined by the basic size of the granules. When drying on your wall can manifest different artistic effects, imitations of materials and composition, interesting stencil patterns. Depending on the color of the coating, the level of the tone depth and visual effects will change. To ensure that the plaster has shown all its beauty, it is necessary to adhere strictly to the recommendations for applying the plaster layer. The surface is covered with a composition using a metal trowel made of stainless steel and only after 15-24 hours the next layer is applied. This time is required for the adhesion of the two layers. The last layer is applied by free movements in a disorderly mode - this creates a unique relief of the wall. Correct the stains with a roller, trowel or sandpaper.

Textured plaster in the interior

An important advantage of this type of wall decoration is its versatility in terms of selection for the interior. So, a room in the classical style can be decorated with plaster of soft pastel tones with pearlescent shades, and a room in the style of kitsch or avant-garde can be decorated with plaster of bright shades with metallic tints. A room in the style of Provence or country will look organically with textured plaster with flowers and other plant motifs.
