If you happen to visit Berlin , then certainly visit the local zoo. This place does not at all resemble the "soviet" zoos, to which we are accustomed. Here, animals feel almost like in their native habitat. The territory of this zoo occupies an entire 35 hectares in the Tiergarten (one of the districts of Berlin). This place is able to surprise with the abundance of animals living here, at the moment there are more than 15 000 individuals. We also recommend visiting the aquarium, which is located at the zoo, but its merits fade in front of the majestic animal kingdom. When planning a trip to this zoo, count on the fact that it can take a whole day to inspect.

General information
This zoo opened first in the whole of Germany, and the ninth in the world. The grand opening took place in August 1844. Some time after the end of the First World War, the design of the park was subjected to significant changes. Cells were transformed into spacious aviaries, zoosad replenished their animal collections, and then came the Second World War. During the fighting, the Berlin Zoo was almost completely destroyed, and few animals managed to survive. Of the 3,700 individuals living in the zoo, only about 90 specimens survived. The second life was given to this place only in 1956, when significant changes occurred in the fate of the zoological garden. Large aviaries for predatory animals, monkeys, pens for birds and even a special dark room for the inhabitants of the night world were rebuilt. The then manager Heinz-Georg Klyos seriously engaged in the cultivation of endangered and rare species, to look at which gathered a lot of people. In the promenade area of the zoo, a large number of statues were installed, the destroyed buildings were reconstructed or rebuilt. So, from the ruins the Berlin Zoo once again became one of the main sights of the city.

A walk through the zoo
Visiting the Berlin Zoo is possible in winter and summer, because the temperature here rarely falls below zero. The conditions that are provided by the animals living here can be envied by the inhabitants of most of the best zoos in the world. Particularly impressive are the seals of fur seals and penguins, where animals jump straight from the rocks into the pool. Considerable interest is also a pen for nocturnal animals, but there is almost impenetrable gloom, so it's very problematic to make out anything. Then you can visit the shore, which is embroidered with artificial waves, the realm of waterfowl. It is definitely worth visiting the paddock with hippopotami, and look through the thick glass, as these animals swim. Next, we go to the pen with elephants, there are always a lot of onlookers who came to look at these giants of the animal world. Here you will not find the tablets "Do not feed animals", but everywhere there are automatic machines with food. Throwing in such a machine only 20 cents, you can feed the animals with normal food. Especially the local sheep and goats love food, which take food directly from the guests of the zoo. You will also be invited to visit the aquarium-terrarium, but if you expect to see there the same living wealth as in the zoo, then you will be disappointed. And not because the inhabitants of the aquarium are unworthy, just the zoo is too good.
