Coccidiosis is an invasive disease that is provoked by a simple parasite - coccidia. It affects the intestines and liver. In the organisms of rabbits, 10 species most often parasitize - 9 of which in the intestine and one in the liver, although, most often, two organs are affected simultaneously. What should be the treatment that would heal coccidiosis in rabbits?
Diseases of rabbits - how to treat coccidiosis?
The most vulnerable to this disease are rabbits of two to three months, adults usually are only carriers. Infection with coccidiosis occurs in the simplest way - this is feed, milk, water, which were originally infected with oocytes.
The incubation period lasts no more than three days, and the signs of the disease are:
- dysbacteriosis of the intestine, which eventually flows into a stomach upset;
- decreased appetite, which subsequently leads to a sharp loss of weight;
- severe exhaustion (which can lead to death)
- convulsions and various neurotic seizures;
- yellowness of the proteins of the eyes.
Treatment, as well as prophylaxis against coccidiosis in rabbits, at home should look like this: eliminating the lack of feeding and keeping the rabbits and all the factors that can provoke the appearance of this parasite.
How to give rabbits a coccidiosis? Do it better with iodinated water. This is one of the best ways to prevent disease in young rabbits. Iodine should be diluted in water and given to a pregnant female. You need to start from the 20th day of pregnancy and give 75 ml of 0.02% solution, and continue the procedure for 10 days. After a break in three or four days, and the procedure is repeated for another 7 days (the same iodized water should be given to the rabbits for the first 30 days, then the dose can be increased 1.5 times and continue the prophylaxis).
Preparations for coccidiosis for rabbits
In the treatment of coccidiosis, the most effective are sulfademitoxin, nerosulfazole, phthalozole, sulfapridazine, detrim, metronedazole, and netrofarone.
Thus, rabbit sulfademitoxin is treated for 10 days (0.3 grams per kilogram of body weight).
Nerosulfazole and phthalozole are used simultaneously (0.4 and 0.2 grams, respectively, per kilogram of weight). The course of treatment lasts five days, after which you need to take a break in 5 days and repeat the same procedure again.
Sulfampridazine, detrim, metronedazole and netropharone have a similar treatment regimen. So, the course should last 7 days and give 20-35 grams daily.
