Restoration of furniture with their own hands is gaining increasing popularity among creative people. It's much more interesting to create a unique interior detail, rather than buying a factory "stamping", especially as the needlework will not hit the budget like buying new furniture.
Today we will try to figure out how to make the old coffee table modern without much expense.
Decor of a coffee table by one's own hands
An inconspicuous coffee table can be decorated with an ordinary tiled mosaic, which can easily be found in markets or sanitary ware shops. Such decor also perfectly disguises the cracks and worn out "experienced" elements of the interior.
So, for the decor, we need:
- sandpaper (small);
- spray-paint;
- tile-mosaic (mesh);
- adhesive for tiles and scissors;
- grout for tiles;
- a spatula, or a plastic knife.
- First of all, we, of course, wash our table from the old varnish, paint and grind the irregularities with sandpaper. If you have bought an inexpensive new table and just want to decorate it, you still have to lightly clean the surface to make the paint easier to lay down.
- Then we cover our table with paint. It is more convenient to use the spray, because it gives a light, translucent coating and effectively stains the hard-to-reach places. Paint after application leave to dry for the night in a well ventilated room.
- After the basic restoration of the coffee table with our own hands is finished, we proceed to decorating. Plastic knife, or putty knife on the surface of a thick layer of glue for tiles.
- Pre-measured pieces of the mosaic are fixed with glue and leave for another night until completely dry. Before mashing do not forget to glue the edges with electrical tape, or a paint tape, so as not to stain the carefully painted surface of the table.
- It's time to mask the tile seams with a special trowel. This can be done with a conventional or special trowel, as in the picture.
- Remains of the grout wipe with a damp sponge ...
- ... and then a towel
- Thus, you can update the coffee table, cupboard, chest of drawers, or even a closet with your own hands.
Another way to decorate a coffee table with your own hands
However, not everyone can work painstakingly on the design for several days, waiting for the paint and glue to dry. Decoration of a coffee table with your own hands can take even less time and money if you use the usual wallpaper and clerical buttons to create an interior object in the Art Nouveau style.
For this design, everything is exactly what you need:
- wallpaper;
- Glue and varnish for decoupage;
- clerical buttons;
- scissors, ruler and hammer.
- First of all, if necessary, we paint our table. We cover the dry and clean surface of the table top with varnish. Carefully paste a piece of wallpaper, smoothing the formed folds and bubbles with a ruler.
- Dry the wallpaper with varnish and decorate the perimeter with clerical buttons. If you want, you can put a pattern out of the buttons.
- Ensure that the buttons are located at the same distance from each other and from the edges of the table top. It is desirable to pre-measure the line of buttons and draw it with a pencil. Everything, our coffee table made with our own hands is ready!
Of course, instead of wallpaper, you can cover the table top with fabric, plastic, or leather, and for the sake of originality, you can deliberately make a coffee table pass through it with a rough grinding paper.
