Concussion in the child

Every mom knows that kids are simply indefatigable in active games and most like to spend time, running, jumping and trying to climb wherever possible. This is an important element of their psychophysical development, but parents should be on the alert: concussion in a child who leads an active lifestyle is more than likely.

When can I assume a concussion?

To notice that something is wrong with the child, even an inexperienced adult can do. Consider how to determine a concussion in a child of any age:

  1. The kid complains of severe headache and dizziness, seeks to lie down, disoriented in space. He can also react badly to what is happening around him.
  2. A small victim does not realize where he is, or is completely lost in time. Sometimes he asks not absolutely adequate, in the opinion of parents, questions.
  3. Mom and Dad notice from their child a constant nausea and vomiting, while poisoning can practically be ruled out.
  4. Adults should always be aware of how a child's brain concussion is manifested, since such inconspicuous signs as a change in the pulse are sometimes indicative of this state: its rapid increase or, conversely, a decrease.
  5. Often diagnosed with post-traumatic blindness syndrome, which can develop as soon as a fall or stroke, and after a few hours. After a while, vision is restored by itself.
  6. Crumbs are characterized by restless behavior, frequent mood swings, sleep disorders. Appetite is sharply reduced.
  7. The first signs of concussion in the child include loss of consciousness: in this case, the doctor should be consulted immediately.
  8. In babies this condition has its own characteristics and proceeds almost imperceptibly. Attentive parents notice that the baby does not sleep well, often cries and behaves restlessly, it has become frequent regurgitation, there is a single or repeated vomiting. A baby can refuse to eat, and his skin covers a significant pallor. All these symptoms of concussion in the infant should not go unnoticed.

What to do in case of a concussion in the baby?

In any case, it is necessary to call an ambulance as soon as possible. Before the arrival of doctors, put the child so that he does not fall, and provide him with complete peace. If he has lost consciousness, turn him on his side to prevent vomiting from getting into the airway. Try to brake the baby: it is better if he is awake for at least an hour after the injury. Painkillers without recommendations of the doctor should not be given.

Further treatment of brain concussion in children in most cases occurs in a hospital. Here the following procedures are carried out:

With the help of neurosonography, computed tomography and other instrumental methods, the degree of damage to the baby's brain is revealed. Completely restrict, at least on a few days of motor and social activity of your child. This will allow you to recover faster and avoid such consequences of a child's concussion as epileptic seizures, cerebral edema, the appearance of intracranial hematomas.

If necessary, prescribe diuretics (Diacarb, Furasemide) in combination with potassium preparations (Panangin, Asparcum ) to prevent edema of the brain. Also, sometimes a child has to take sedatives (phenosepam, an infusion of valerians) and antihistamines (Diazolin, Suprastin). Symptomatically, the doctor can prescribe Baralgin or Sedalgin to reduce the headache, or Tserukal with pronounced nausea.
