Dacryocystitis - treatment

In the normal state, the tear fluid that is washing the eye is then removed through the points located in the corner of the eye (nasolacrimal canal). But if the channel is clogged, the liquid accumulates in a lacrimal sac, stagnates, pathogenic microorganisms develop in it, which leads to inflammation.

In addition to inflammation, in rare cases, blockage of the canal can cause such unpleasant sensations as pressure and tingling in the area of the lacrimal sac, besides the eyes can begin to constantly water.

Types of dacryocystitis

Separate ordinary dacryocystitis and dacryocystitis of newborns. In newborns, the disease usually does not require special treatment and quickly passes by itself. Dacryocystitis in adults does not pass independently, and necessarily requires the visit of an ophthalmologist and the appropriate course of treatment, otherwise fraught with the development of blepharitis , conjunctivitis and other complications.

Dacryocystitis can occur in acute or chronic forms.

  1. Chronic dacryocystitis. It appears in the form of abundant lacrimation, swelling in the lacrimal sac, mucopurulent discharge in the corners of the eyes can be observed.
  2. Acute dacryocystitis. It often develops on the background of the chronic form of the disease. There is a painful swelling and reddening of the skin in the lacrimal sac, a swelling of the eyelids, possibly the development of an abscess of the eyelid.

Treatment of dacryocystitis

Treatment of dacryocystitis depends on whether the disease is acute or chronic.

With acute dacryocystitis, vitamin therapy is given, UHF is prescribed and warmth is heated in the area of inflammation. In the future, the abscess can be opened independently or it is opened, and then drainage and rinsing of the wound with antiseptics are carried out. In the conjunctival sac in the treatment acute dakriocystitis instilled antibacterial drops or lay antimicrobial ointment. Used drugs such as levomitsetin, tetracycline, gentamicin, erythromycin, miramistin and others with a similar effect.

In the treatment of chronic dacryocystitis, the main task is to restore the patency of the tear duct. For this purpose, massage and intensive washing with disinfectant solutions are used. In the case of ineffectiveness of these measures, treatment is performed surgically.

Carry out treatment of dacryocystitis at home is not recommended, because as with acute form it is fraught with infection and spread of the infection, and in chronic cases - in most cases ineffective.
