Decoupage on fabric

It's amazing how ordinary masters turn into exclusive and original things in the hands of masters. With the help of decoupage techniques, not only decorate the interior, but also give new life to old things. Below we will consider the main stages of decoupage in the fabric for beginners, as well as specific examples of use.

Decoupage technique on fabric

So, you decided to try for yourself in this kind of needlework. Where should we begin? First of all, we will get acquainted with the technology itself. It is logical that the principle is not much different from decoupage caskets , plates, etc. However, there are some nuances in this business.

  1. First, the glue here will need special. You can try using conventional PVA, but this is not always convenient, because after washing your product will completely deteriorate. If you know in advance that washing can not be avoided, boldly get the adhesive for decoupage on the fabric. Producers point out that he is not afraid of water at all, but in practice you can count on a dozen washes without consequences.
  2. Now as to the fabric itself. Work best with only natural materials. They perfectly show themselves when working with paints, and the drawing looks natural to them. Many prefer light shades, but natural and darker, too, no one bothers to take. So, cover with glue all the fabric that you plan to glue. Let it dry.
  3. By the way, about the drawing. As in any other types of decoupage, the image will be transferred from napkins or other fabric. If you can print a picture you like on rice paper, this option is also suitable. The fabric has dried - cut it. Lubricate the glue from the wrong side. Decoupage in the fabric for beginners involves the use of conventional acrylic glue, with the help of which, if you want, you can cover, already pasted, a picture.

That's actually the whole simple set for work. Now a few words about the field of application. It is clear that it will be determined by the materials used, namely glue. If you plan to decorate a tablecloth, napkins or children's things in this way, then immediately abandon this idea. First, after a few washings (and such things are usually washed in hot water), the picture will deteriorate noticeably. And secondly, for such products, natural coarse cotton fabrics are rarely used. Where, then, can you prove yourself?

The area of application of decoupage on fabric

I liked everything very much and my hands just itch to try it myself. But where does the drawing cost? There are several areas of use and this creates different ideas for decoupage.

  1. the simplest and suitable for beginners option - thin napkins and dense cotton fabric. Of this, often poured sacks for cereals or similar textile trifles for the kitchen. In this case, you will have to use special glue. Always wash the fabric before use and iron it, as many shrink.
  2. Very original look drawings on the canvas. Here it is quite enough conventional PVA. Since it is not customary to erase such pictures, we first simply iron the canvas with a very hot iron through a wet cloth. Now you can smooth the paper with a brush and after completely drying using a needle to pierce the holes. Next, just insert into the frame under the glass.
  3. Looks great decoupage on the fabric as a wall panel. For this purpose, a burlap or something similar will do. Before moving the drawing, the area under they cover with white paint in two layers. In this case, I work equally well on images on napkins, printouts, or even ordinary thin paper (it is simply pre-soaked in water).
  4. Decoupage by wood cloth is less common, but it has found its application. As a rule, these are cozy caskets, trays or other small objects of decor. It is important to choose the right fabric. It should be a natural and very thin type of poplin or chintz. Decoupage with wood cloth must be fixed with special acrylic lacquer.

Also an excellent application of this technique is decoupage of shoes with a cloth. Here your imagination is unlimited: textile sneakers and moccasins, children's shoes with downed socks and old mother's shoes.
