"Dirty Dancing" 30 years later: what happened to the actors?

30 years ago, the premiere of the cult melodrama "Dirty Dancing" was held. In this connection, a remake of the painting with the same name was published in the USA. The new film did not cause viewers and critics almost no emotions, except indignation, but served as an excellent occasion to recall how the fate of the actors of the original version.

Unfortunately, not all the actors of the cult film survived to this day ...

Jennifer Gray (Francis Housman, nicknamed Baby)

The main female role in the film was performed by the 27-year-old novice actress Jennifer Gray. Together with Patrick Swayze they played with great confidence the couple in love, however in real life the actors hardly endured each other. Jennifer did not like the fact that her partner was always trying to teach her, Patrick was getting rid of Jennifer's capriciousness and infantilism.

After filming the movie, Jennifer decided on rhinoplasty. Changing the shape of the nose, she became, perhaps, more attractive, but lost her individuality, and she was almost never invited to act in films.

"I went to the operating theater, but I did not go out"

In 1989, Jennifer had an affair with Johnny Depp. It was going to the wedding, but the engagement was soon upset, according to rumors, because of the enthusiasm of Johnny Winona Ryder. To the altar, Jennifer was led by a completely different man: in 2001, the actress married a Hollywood actor and director Clark Gregg. The couple have a 16-year-old daughter Stella.

In 2010, Jennifer was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Fortunately, the doctors managed to stop the disease. Later, Jennifer offered a role in the remake of "Dirty Dancing", but the actress refused:

"I was forced to refuse, because the proposed role does not suit me. I will not say who I was offered to play, but certainly not Baby "

Patrick Swayze (dancer Johnny)

Of course, the main star of the film is Patrick Swayze. Hard to believe that the actor initially did not want to take in the film: according to the directors, 34-year-old Swayze was oldish for the role of a young dancer. However, on tests his duet with Jennifer Gray was full of such energy and charm that the actor was still approved for the role. In addition, Patrick danced great, because he was engaged in ballet since early childhood. After the stunning success of "Dirty Dancing", the actor was showered with proposals from the directors and he starred in several other famous films, among them "Ghost" and "House by the Road."

As for his private life, Patrick turned out to be a monogamous one: at the age of 23 he married actress Lisa Niemi and lived with her almost 35 years, until his death. Children of the couple were not.

In 2008, Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with a pancreatic cancer. The actor selflessly struggled with the ailment, however in 2009 he was no more.

Jennifer Gray, who was associated with Patrick is not the most simple relationship, after his death said:

"Patrick had a rare combination of gross masculinity and surprising subtlety. He was beautiful and strong, a real cowboy with a tender heart ... "

Jerry Orbach (Jay Housman - father of Baby)

Actor Jerry Orbach began acting in the movie in 1955, at the same time he made his debut on the stage. After filming in "Dirty Dancing" he got the role of Lenny Brisko in the crime serial "Law and Order", which he dedicated 12 years. The actor was married twice, he has two sons. In 2004, Jerry Orbach died of prostate cancer before he reached the age of 70.

Orbah was the favorite actor of writer Kurt Vonnegut. When asked what he would like to turn into, the satirist replied:

"In Jerry Orbach, and without questions ..."

Kelly Bishop (Marjorie Hausman - Baby's mother)

Kelly Bishop has been engaged in choreography since childhood, dreaming of becoming a ballerina. Before "Dirty Dancing" she participated in many Broadway musicals, and already after filming in cult melodrama, she performed one of the main roles in the television series "Gilmore Girls". Now the 73-year-old actress lives with her husband in New Jersey.

Cynthia Rhodes (Penny is Johnny's partner)

Actress and dancer Cynthia Rhodes also starred in the films "Dance-flash" and "Lost". Raised in a strict religious family, Cynthia flatly refused to play in frank scenes. Perhaps, that is why her career was not asked: after "Dirty Dancing" she starred in only one film. Later, Cynthia married and devoted herself to the education of three sons.

Jane Brucker (Lisa Houseman-sister Baby)

Jane Brooker did not do much. Lisa Hausman - the brightest role in her career. Now the actress is engaged in volunteer work. She is married, she has 2 adult daughters.

Max Cantor (Roby Gold is a waiter)

The fate of the young actor was tragic. Debuting in the movie "Dirty Dancing," Max starred in the lead role in the film "Fear, anxiety and depression," and then started to journalism. He was preparing a report on the life of New York drug addicts and during the work himself hooked on drugs. In 1991, at the age of 32, Max died of a heroin overdose.

Jack Weston (Max Kellerman - the owner of a boarding house where Baby is resting with his family)

During the filming of the film, Max Weston was already 63 years old, and all of his most brilliant film works were left behind. He played in the films "Keen on the Scene", "Imitation of Life", "Cactus Flower", "Wait for Darkness" and many others.

In 1996, the actor died of cancer at the age of 71 years.

Lonnie Price (Neil - Kellerman's grandson, a fan of Baby)

The role in "Dirty Dancing" became for Lonnie the brightest in his entire acting career, but he earned fame as a director and screenwriter of Broadway musicals and several films.
