District Rocks

What place in Sydney is a favorite among tourists, so it's the Rocks area (The Rocks). It is interesting that here there are buildings built in the time of the first European settlers. It is located on the southern shore of Sydney Harbor and northwest of the city's central business district.

It's hard to believe, but now The Rocks might not have been, had it not been for the activity of local residents who, in the 1970s, opposed large-scale buildings in the area with skyscrapers.

What to see?

This area is so popular with tourists, primarily because of the nearby Circular Quay and the equally famous Harbor Bridge . There are many historical and thematic pubs, souvenir shops and artisan workshops. Anyone wishing to take a weekend can visit the Rocks Market, a local market consisting of more than one hundred stalls.

If you are looking for inspiration, then be sure to check out the art gallery, where the works of many Australian artists are exhibited, including Ken Dana and Ken Duncan.

Among historical buildings, there is a separate mention of Cadmans Cottage and Sydney Observatory . In Cadmans Cottage are houses that are listed in Australia in the register of national and state heritage of New South Wales.

The Sydney Observatory is located on a hill that today is known as the Hill Observatory, located in the center of Sydney. Earlier this building was a fortress, but in the 19th century it turned into an astronomical observatory. Now there is a museum here, looking into which in the evening, you have the opportunity to admire the planets and stars through a modern telescope. In addition, you will see the oldest telescope-refractor, created in the distant 1874.
