The main attraction of the Republic of South Africa for tourists from all corners of the globe is that they managed to preserve the uniqueness of the ancient tribes - for this purpose the ethnic village of Lesedi was created.
It presents the way of life, the peculiarities of the culture of the five indigenous tribes that lived and lived in South Africa:
- Basuto;
- Zulu;
- Ndbele;
- Pedi;
- The spit.
Of course, it should be noted that in the village the overwhelming majority of the residents are not authentic representatives of ancient tribes, but only professional actors, but still tourists get unforgettable impressions of visiting this unique place all over the world.
History of the village
Ethnic village of Lesedi was created just over ten years ago - in 1995. It shows five small zones, each of which corresponds to a particular tribe.
Interestingly, originally in this place lived Zulus. However, in 1993, one of the most authoritative researchers of the African ethnos, K. Holgate, proposed that several tribes be united in one place in order to convey the peculiarities of their lives to tourists.
What do tourists see?
While visiting an ethnic village, every tourist will be able to know in detail the peculiarities of life of each individual tribe. In particular, travelers are shown ancient rituals, show dwellings and familiarize themselves with everyday life.
If desired, you can wear costumes that are characteristic of tribes or try their dishes.
A whole program of visiting the village was created:
- meeting with ritual dances and cheers of leaders;
- a demonstration of the film about the life of the tribes - it provides historical references and unique cadres;
- inspection of dwellings;
- the opportunity to participate in the arrangement of life, farm management.
Tourists are accompanied by the leader of one of the tribes - he not only tells, but also shows what and how exactly the representatives of this or that settlement do.
The visit ends with a collective dinner, in the menu of which only real, African dishes are presented. The dinner of the show with dances and hymns is accompanied.

Those who wish to fully immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of the South African region, an additional service is offered - accommodation in the tribe. For an overnight stay, cozy rooms are provided, but decorated in the style of the Zulu tribe.

Naturally, leaving the ethnic village of Lesedy, travelers carry with them not only entertaining photos - here you can also buy a variety of souvenirs.
