Lamu Museum


Lamu is a small town on the island of the same name. This is a city protected by UNESCO. Below we will talk about one of its attractions - the Lamu Museum.

His story began with the construction of Fort Lamu, in which he is now located. Build the building began in 1813, when the local residents won the battle at Shelah. By 1821 the fort was built. Before becoming a museum, he was a prison until 1984. Later it was transferred to the management of the National Museums of Kenya .

On the ground floor of the Lamu Museum there is a collection dedicated to three themes: marine life around the shores of Kenya, rivers and life on land. Most of the exposition is devoted to the material culture and traditions of people inhabiting the coasts of Kenya. On the second floor of the fort there are administrative premises, workshops, laboratories and a restaurant.
