Hill of Daines

Travel around Latvia will be remembered not only by medieval castles, but also by interesting national parks and natural monuments. One of them is Dine Hill, located in the city of Sigulda . It is a small corner where various sculptures are carefully preserved.

Hill Dine - history and description

The place to create the park was chosen for a reason, according to scientists once there was a parking lot of ancient Litas. Now in modern Latvia this territory is occupied by the folk song park. The name of the hill "Dine" is translated as Latvian folk songs, which the world-famous writer, prominent public figure and folklorist Krishyanis Baron introduced to the world. He deserves credit for having collected and published more than 200,000 dainas. This is due to the fact that the park has collected various sculptures on the theme of folklore.

Dainas are short songs, often rhymed, they represent the basis of the entire Baltic folk art. The hill was created to honor work and express respect for Krishyanis Baron. Sculptures, which were created in the image of the characters of the dain, are abstract. This they are different from many other monuments that can often be seen in museums and parks.

A special atmosphere comes from 26 sculptures of the famous master Indulis Ranki. They not only successfully combine with the surrounding landscape, but also symbolize human values. Inspiration and theme for their creation were the characters of Latvian folk songs.

The hill adjoins the manor, built even in the distant past of wars between the Livonian Order and the Riga Principality.

It takes a long time to explore the Dine Hill in detail. Consider every sculpture will have a long time to understand the author's intent.
