How to choose a stretch ceiling?

Stretched ceiling is one of the most popular modern types of ceiling coverings. The technology of stretching fabric under the ceiling has been known for a long time, since the time of ancient Rome. However, it was in the second half of the 20th century, with the advent of modern materials, namely PVC films, that the stretch ceiling quickly took the leading positions. The principle of this coating is simple as all ingenious: a thin, but very strong PVC film or fabric stretches and fastens to the frame. This results in a perfectly flat surface, under which all defects in the ceiling and communication are hidden.

Types of stretch ceilings

In order to determine which stretch ceiling to choose, you need to know the basic concepts, types of coatings, their advantages and disadvantages.

First of all, as it is already clear, stretch ceilings are distinguished according to the material used. Accordingly, there are film and fabric ceilings. The film stretch ceiling is made of strips of PVC welded in such a way that the seam is practically invisible. Therefore, the film ceiling is called suture. Before installation, the film is heated and fixed to the frame. After cooling, the film turns into an absolutely flat cloth, strong and hydrostable. It is easy to take care of such a ceiling, if necessary, it can be removed and installed back. Asking the question, which is better to choose stretch ceilings, it should be remembered that PVC has a low frost resistance.

Fabric or seamless stretch ceilings are a single piece of polyester yarn with a width of up to 5 meters. Fabric stretch ceilings are more durable, are not afraid of negative temperatures, have a diverse structure, but their cost is much higher.

How to choose the color of the stretch ceiling?

Before choosing the color of the stretch ceiling, you should determine its texture. Here you can select only 2 types: glossy and matt canvases. Glossy stretch ceilings look great in modern interiors, allow you to create a unique game of light and reflection. The matte fabric gives the impression of just a flat surface without specular reflection, therefore it is more often used in quiet classical interiors, accurately transferring its color due to the absence of reflection. A matt stretch ceiling can also have different structures, simulating velvet or fabric. It should be remembered that a seamless fabric ceiling can only have a matte texture.

And yet, how to choose the color of the ceiling? First of all, it should be integrated into the invented interior. Stretch ceilings have hundreds of colors and shades, make it possible to put on their surface any drawings, photo printing and much more. Secondly, the color of the ceiling can mask shortcomings and emphasize the dignity of the room. For example, choosing a darker color, you can visually "lower" the ceiling too high and make the room's parameters more harmonious.

Tension ceilings are perfectly combined with gypsum plasterboard elements, creating interesting multi-level compositions. Thus, For example, you can emphasize the zoning of the space of a room. And various mortise and pendant variants of point lighting will create absolutely unique images of ceiling coverings.

As a rule, the last question arises: what manufacturer of stretch ceilings to choose? If you want the coating to last a long time, do not deform, do not change color (and the minimum guaranteed lifetime is at least 10 years), it's worth paying attention to well-proven brands. The main producers supplying stretch ceilings to Europe are in the following countries: France, Germany, Switzerland, Russia and China.
