Yssing-ji


In the city ​​of Osaka there is a kind of Buddhist temple called Ishin-ji. This is one of the oldest centers of Buddhism in the Jodo-shu school in Japan . Since the Meiji times, on the territory of the temple were installed 13 statues, made from the ashes of the deceased followers of this school. It is they who come to see the foreign visitors of the city. There are always many parishioners in this church. Annually on April 21 there is a solemn ceremony of cremation.

Features of the temple Ishin-ji Temple

This temple, as claimed by Japanese researchers, created the patriarch Honen in the distant 1185. The first burial in the territory of Issin-ji happened in 1854: the ashes of the famous Japanese actor of the Kabuki theater Ichikawa Dandzyuro VIII were resting here.

Then in the temple began to establish numerous funeral urns. When the place for them no longer exists, the abbot instructed to establish here statues of Amitabha. For this, the ashes of the deceased were fastened with resin, and sculptures were made from this mass by statues.

During the Second World War, six statues suffered from bombing, but were gradually restored. Several pavilions were built on the territory of the shrine, as well as a gate with stone guards.
