Multimeter refers to devices that can be very useful in everyday life. With their help, you can solve many questions, for example, how to measure the battery capacity with a multimeter? In order to implement this in practice, you need to adhere to a certain algorithm of action.
Purpose of multimeter
With the help of the tester, you can not only check the capacity of the batteries with a multimeter, but also many other useful checks, among which you can designate the following:
- search for a break in the electrical cable network;
- determining the value of the voltage in the sockets;
- determination of the resistance value in the network;
- checking the efficiency of electrical appliances, as well as light bulbs;
- well, and already mentioned procedure, giving an answer to the question, how to check the battery capacity with a multimeter.
How to make a stop?
In order to understand the problem of how to check the capacity of the battery with a multimeter, several manipulations will be required. The first step is to turn on the device and set it on the parameter "DC - Amperes". Next, you need to configure the recommended indicators for the ports:
- the port value for the probe at number 1 must be COM;
- the characteristic of the port for the probe at number 2 should be set to 10ADC;
- The handle must be in a position called DAC or DCA;
- The maximum result for verification should not be less than 6 A and above 10 A.
It should be borne in mind that the use of the "Volta" position in order to determine the current strength is not permissible. Now we need to connect the probes of the measuring instrument to the contacts, according to the following relation:
- The "+" terminal is connected to the "+" on the battery;
- accordingly, the minus terminal is connected to the side with negative polarity.
Do not be afraid that the polarity will be confused. In this scenario, only a negative sign will appear before the number. When conducting a measurement, it is important not to over-restrain a closed circuit, because such a turn of events can lead to spoilage of even an absolutely new battery. The maximum process time should not exceed two seconds. This is enough to see the value of the desired ampere parameter on the tester display. Ideally, everything should be allocated no more than one second.
Metering results
Based on the received, it is possible to draw conclusions about the further destiny of using the battery. It is worth remembering only that the higher the value of the desired parameter, the more powerful it will work:
- so, for example, the remote control can function well with a battery having a current strength of 1A. But for correct operation of the camera, an indicator exceeding 5 A is required;
- the current strength has not even reached 1 A - can only be used in the operation of electrical appliances that consume a negligible amount of energy. Such devices are a small pocket radio or a wall clock.
The most optimal way to check the professional suitability of a battery is to insert it into an electrical appliance. After measuring the parameter, it is not necessary to go astray on the information that is indicated directly on the battery. Often, it does not register amperage, but nominal voltage or in other words tension. In most cases, the following parameters are specified:
- 1.5 V - indicated on new galvanic (disposable) batteries;
- 1.2 V - which the battery cell provides.
Following a certain algorithm of actions, you can measure the capacity of the battery using a multimeter. This will help determine which device to use.
