Suggestion in Psychology

Under suggestion is understood the process of submitting information perceived without critical evaluation and influencing a number of mental processes of a person. In our lives, every person at least once experienced the suggestion of thoughts.

Here's the simplest example: you walk down the street and meet a fortune teller. She begins to tell you those things that you are subconsciously ready to hear and you are "blind" without realizing it, believe it. To some extent such a situation is hypnosis and suggestion at the same time and it is rather difficult to not perceive it.

Psychological suggestion is used to change the behavior of a person, while blocking his thinking. This method takes on special strength with repeated repetition. From the first time a person may not perceive the information suggested to him, but having listened to the same thing several times, he will definitely take it for granted. The effect of suggestion is achieved in a variety of ways and has several main types.

Types of suggestion

  1. Direct and indirect suggestion. Direct is presented as an order - sharp jerky phrases, appropriate intonation and facial expressions. And the indirect is a hidden suggestion to man. It is used to enhance the desired effect. This kind of suggestion is perceived unconsciously and imperceptibly;
  2. Intentional and natural suggestion. Intentionality is used when trying to achieve a clearly stated goal, but a natural or unintended, as a rule, happens by chance;
  3. Positive and negative. The positive inspires confidence in the person and helps to heal. And negatively appropriates personality only negative psychological properties, such as: laziness, dishonesty and self-doubt.

Each person is exposed to feelings and thoughts, because each of us has the ability to believe. Do not use this technique to achieve selfish goals, because one day someone can play with you the same evil joke.
