Today's popular plastic windows are distinguished by reliability and durability. The sill also has the same properties, which, most often, is installed with the window. However, it is more exposed to adverse factors: bright sunlight, moisture from flower pots, warm air from radiators. And if the plastic window sill loses its original appearance, then the landlord must find out if the plastic window sill can be painted and the better it is to do so.
Types of paint for plastic windowsills
Plastic window sills are to be painted, but for this you need to choose a special paint. The most common paint coatings that are suitable for plastic are:
- car paint for a plastic surface, it is sold in aerosol cans. This coating will not be too strong, so it is applied in several layers. But, using such a paint, you can choose a variety of shades, and the process of applying it will be quite simple;
- polyurethane paint with the addition of hardener;
- one-component alkyd-urethane paint, just like the previous one, will be more durable than aerosol, and a coating painted with such paints will be able to withstand significant loads without losing the appearance of the product.
Before you start painting the plastic window sill, its surface should be prepared. If the plastic window sill has been previously painted, then it is necessary to remove the old paint with a special rinse. After that, the surface should be sanded with sandpaper with a fine grain. Then it is covered with a plastic primer. After the window sill has dried, it must be sanded once more with very fine sandpaper. With a completely dry surface, remove the dust, and then degrease. Now, close the surface with the scotch tape and start painting.
