How to water the grapes?

Grapes can be seen in almost every yard of the regions where winter and summer are not severe. His berries are not only enjoyed seasonally, that is, in raw form, but also used for making home-made wine , juices and compotes. Beginners in growing grapes may not know all the nuances of care and make mistakes that usually affect the potential harvest. For example, it concerns such an important procedure as watering. We will tell you how to properly water the grapes.

Watering the grapes - yes or no?

Many gardeners who grow grapes believe that, in general, it is not necessary to water it, as it can grow and bear fruit without this procedure. This point of view is justified. Indeed, the plant is considered a drought-resistant culture. Adult grapes have a fairly developed and powerful root system. It penetrates deep into the soil and absorbs moisture from its lower layers. But in fact, the plant responds to watering with excellent growth and yield. However, it is important to know when and how to water properly.

Watering the grape in the spring

In the spring, before the opening of the eyes, the so-called moisture-charging irrigation (to accumulate moisture in the soil for vegetation) is produced, which is designed to help penetrate the water to a depth of one and a half meters. Then in the summer drought the grapes will suck this moisture, which usually does not dry completely. For this method, in the trunk circle, drainage holes and trenches are produced, where the irrigation is then carried out using a drip method. You can, for example, hold a hose and turn on the water to a small head, so that each drop is absorbed and left in the part of the earth where the roots of the grapes are located, rather than flowed by. However, pay attention that this measure is necessary in the event that in winter there was little and did not have snow at all.

Watering grapes in summer

In the summer, if there is a systematic rainfall, it is not necessary to water the grapes. Another thing is if the summer is arid. If we talk about when to water the grapes in the heat, then the procedure is needed after flowering and during the filling of berries to support the vegetation. Especially watering is important in June and July for early grape varieties. As for medium- and late-ripening varieties, they must be watered in August. However, keep in mind that shortly before harvesting moisture does not need culture, otherwise the clusters will crack.

As to how to properly water the grapes in summer, it is optimal to use about 50-70 liters per adult shrub if you have black soil. For loose soils, use 20 liters more. After watering, the ground around the stem is covered with mulch.

Watering the grapes in autumn

Late fall is also carried out water recharge irrigation. It must be done if the autumn was dry. Water is needed to ensure that in winter in the un-moistened soil, deep frosts do not penetrate and do not damage the roots of the grapes. If there were rains, there is no need to water.

Watering seedlings and grape cuttings

In young plants, care is somewhat different. So, for example, if we talk about how to water the cuttings of grapes, it is important that the soil is slightly moistened. Overmoistening is dangerous: the roots begin to rot, and the shank eventually dies. Here the rule "often and by and by" works. This means that the container with cuttings is moistened once every 10-15 days with a small amount of water.

It is necessary to say a few words about how to properly water the seedlings of grapes. In the first year of life, the sapling is important to take root and develop a root system. Since the roots of young plants are not yet located deep, watering is carried out within the landing pit. For this, a shovel 20 cm from the trunk is made in a circle by a circle, which is then poured with a small amount of water.
