The usual summer resident, growing tomatoes, most likely did not hear that there are such names - determinant and indeterminate bushes. And they mean the size, or rather, the growth of a tomato bush.
If the determinant tomato variety is an ordinary tomato bush familiar to all of us, tied to the support or even without it, the indeterminate ones look somewhat different.
What does the indeterminate variety mean?
Many people think that these are ordinary tall tomatoes like DeBarao , but this is not entirely true. This variety, like those similar to it, not exceeding a height of 1.5-1.8 m, are semi-determinant - a term not at all familiar to the man in the street.
An indeterminate variety is a plant two meters high. That's right: a bush of tomato grows the size of a tree. This can only be done in specially equipped greenhouses and is most often used for industrial cultivation, because care and collection of fruit at a height of 3-4 meters, you see, will not be able to all truck farmers.
An indeterminate variety can grow practically without restriction, and not only in height. The duration of its cultivation also differs from the usual plant. The century of the standard tomato shrub is short - after the fruiting has finished, he no longer binds up new fruits and is removed. And the indeterminate bush fructifies for a long time, throwing out new and new inflorescences.
Resistance to diseases in this variety is very high in comparison with ordinary low-growing varieties for open ground. This affects the productivity of bushes - the abundance of fruits allows them to be used not only for personal needs, but also for sale in large batches. To this end, varieties with excellent transport and taste qualities were derived.
How is the indeterminate bush formed?
We know how important it is to patch your stepsons for a tomato. The same applies to indeterminate varieties of tomatoes. But it is necessary to leave a short stump to prevent the branch from growing again.
In addition, such a plant is formed in one branch, in contrast to the usual volumetric branched bush of the determinant variety. This interesting variety blossoms somewhat later than its colleague. This happens when the plant develops from seven to twelve leaves.
Tomatoes for greenhouses - indeterminate varieties
The best high-growth tomato bushes show their best in greenhouse conditions. But for this, it must have appropriate dimensions, as well as an irreproachable heating and ventilation system.
Like any variety of tomatoes, this also requires a loose nutrient soil, and fertilizing, carried out in due time.
The best varieties of indeterminate tomatoes, which are worth growing in a greenhouse, are recognized:
- Veja - the sizes of fruits reach 120 g, they have excellent shelf life. The variety is medium-early, well cultivated, resistant to most diseases of tomatoes;
