Insulation for the walls of the house outside under the siding

Recently, many owners are thinking about warming the walls of their homes. The energy saving problem is very urgent today. And most often for these purposes is used siding - a beautiful finishing material that improves the aesthetics of the house. You can use siding not only during the erection of the walls of the house, but also at any other time when the owners decide to insulate the walls of the house.

However, one siding for warming the house is not enough. Therefore, in order to warm the house was effective and helped reduce the cost of heating, you must choose the right insulation for the walls of the house outside under the siding. And use a heater is necessary for a wooden house, and for walls made of bricks.

Types of insulation for home under siding

Today, the construction market is full of different types of insulation. Let's consider which of the insulation is suitable for siding for a wooden and brick house.

  1. Glass wool or fiberglass insulation has both its adherents, and those who do not like such a heater. The advantages of glass wool include its incombustibility, resistance to increased humidity. Under it, condensate is not collected, and there are no corrosive properties of glass wool at all. This insulation has excellent sound insulation. Glass wool is produced in rolls or plates. However, working with glass wool requires certain safety measures.
  2. An analogue of glass wool is basalt insulation. It is successfully used for the insulation of the facade, the attic and even the roof. It is an environmentally friendly material, consisting of basaltic crushed stone, with excellent sound insulation properties. Its price is quite acceptable, and the service life is long enough.
  3. An excellent insulation for a wooden or brick house under siding is mineral wool, which is produced in sheets. This material consists of metallurgical slag, rocks and other silicate materials. Due to the thin and elastic fibers, mineral wool is not shrinkable, therefore it is durable in operation. However, together with the mineral wool, it is necessary to apply a layer of waterproofing, since this insulation has a sufficiently high water permeability. As insulation, a diffusion hydro-windproof membrane or a waterproofing film is used. The price for a mineral wool heater is higher compared to glass wool.
  4. Styrofoam is another good insulation option. It is easy to handle, fire resistant, does not rot and does not respond to temperature fluctuations. Due to its strength and excellent thermal insulation characteristics, it is possible not to repair the walls of a building insulated with siding for a long time with foam plastic. The disadvantage of foam is the low vapor permeability of this material.
  5. A variety of foam plastic is extruded polystyrene foam, which is produced in the form of plates with a cellular structure and high density. This inexpensive insulation is easy and convenient to install, has good sound insulation properties. But the main advantage of such a heater is its extremely low thermal conductivity. This means that the extruded polystyrene foam will perfectly keep the heat in your home. Due to the high moisture resistance and strength to compression of this material, damage to the thermal insulation under the siding is excluded. A significant disadvantage of insulation from expanded polystyrene is its high flammability.
