Laminate with chamfer or without - which is better?

Laminate is in constant demand among buyers due to the variety of colors, cheapness, durability, ease of laying and ease of operation, and, of course, its aesthetic characteristics. Manufacturers offer a huge selection of different types of this product, which are easy to get confused, if you do not know how one differs from the other. One of the details that are of significant importance and which are recommended to pay attention to is the method for processing the edges of the laminate laminate. They can be with a facet, a microfascia or not be chamfered at all. What this means and which laminate is better - with or without chamfer, we will discuss in this article.

What is the difference between laminate and chamfer from laminate without it?

Laminate without chamfer is a type of laminate, the edges of the lamellae are chamfered at a right angle so that the surface of the floor from it visually turns smooth and smooth.

The lamellas with chamfered edges of the lamellas are chamfered at an acute angle, and during installation between the strips a thin V-shaped groove is formed with an average depth of 2-3 mm. Laminate with microfaca also has such a groove, but its depth is minimal and is only 0.5-1 mm. In addition, the edge of the laminate with the microfacca can have a slightly rounded shape.

Laminate edges can be bevelled along the entire perimeter of the lamellae or only along the sides. This treatment gives the laminate a three-dimensional appearance, it looks more attractive and virtually indistinguishable from the floor of natural wood or a parquet board . As a rule, the facet is painted in the tone of the upper surface of the laminate, but there are also variants with a contrasting color of the bevel.

Such a laminate produces only one-side colors, whereas a laminate without a chamfer can have a pattern and with a large number of stripes. They differ also in thickness of lamellas - with a facet, as a rule, 12 mm, and without - 8. Such difference is explained by technical necessity - otherwise because of the chamfer the strength of the laminate at the joints of the lamellas will be lower.

What is better - laminate with bevel or without?

Which type of laminate to choose depends on which room in which style you want to create. Someone chooses a laminate with a facet because of its more classical and natural appearance, and also because it visually it is practically indistinguishable from a covering from wooden boards or a parquet, and to someone, on the contrary, is more like a smooth and equal laminate without chamfer, because it has a more modern look.

As for the price, the price of the laminate without chamfer is usually a little lower, but stopping it on your choice, consider that a significant amount of money may have to be spent on leveling the roll for laying it. Layed on a perfectly flat base, such a laminate forms a solid, visually smooth and even surface, but if the roll is even slightly uneven, or if there are errors in the installation, then on this laminate it will be noticeable immediately, whereas the laminate with chamfer, will help visually hide the small imperfections of the surface of the rolling.

If we talk about water and water resistance, then the laminate with chamfer is not better and not worse than the laminate without chamfer - although the sloped edges of the lamellas and treated with a special moisture-repellent composition, it should be noted that any type of laminate in some way is afraid of excessive moisture.

Do not also worry that the dirt will be clogged in the grooves between the lamellas and because of this, it will be more difficult to take care of the chamfer with a facet. As practice shows, the depth of the grooves is too small, in addition, they have a smooth surface, so keep the floor of such a laminate clean as easily as from a laminate without chamfer.
