Linoleum laying on the wooden floor

Linoleum is a floor covering, which today is the most popular and multi-purpose. Moreover, linoleum is in demand not only for residential premises, but also for public buildings, due to its durability and strength. There are many varieties of linoleum, so it is not difficult to find the one that suits your apartment.

To independently lay linoleum on the wooden floor, does not require special skills and professional skills. Let's look at how this is done.

Preparation of a wooden field for laying linoleum

Linoleum can be laid either on wooden floors, or on concrete (it can be floor slabs, screeds, etc.). You can not lay this material on the old floor, as in the future the new coating will repeat all the irregularities of the old surface. Therefore, a very important step is the correct preparation of the surface for laying linoleum.

If your old wooden floor has preserved many layers of paint, then it must be removed with a trowel and a construction hair dryer. Then, if the wooden floorboards under the linoleum are uneven, they must be leveled by cycleing. If there are more than 1 mm between the boards, you can resort to using a grinder.

The next stage in the preparation of a wooden floor for linoleum will be puttying all the crevices between the boards or using sheets of fiberboard or plywood. If you have relatively new floors, and you are sure that they will not creak or deform, you can simply plaster all the junctions of the boards. However, this option is longer and laborious. It's easier to lay plywood or fiberboard, but as a result, you get an absolutely level basis for laying linoleum. Waterproofing for linoleum experts are advised not to stack, because the tree will not be ventilated and possibly the appearance of mold or rot.

If you decide to lay sheet material under linoleum, remember that along the perimeter of the room you need to lay foam polyethylene in the form of tape in order to avoid the negative consequences of thermal expansion. In addition, between the sheets it is necessary to leave clearances within 1 mm to avoid creaking.

Stilm linoleum on the wooden floor

Before buying a linoleum, you should correctly calculate its number, remembering that the best option is to lay one piece of a piece. If the room you have is wider than the standard linoleum, try to make a junction of two pieces in the center of the room. In addition, linoleum should be taken with a margin, remember the selection of a picture, if one is available on linoleum.

Bringing linoleum home, place it vertically for several hours to ensure that the temperature of the roll is equal to the room temperature. Then lay the linoleum on the floor and leave it for about two days. During this time, the coating leveled and it will be easier to attach it to the floor.

Now you can start cutting linoleum sheets. The drawing on it should be parallel to the walls. Cut the excess with a sharp knife, and do this not immediately in a clean version, but with allowances up to 3 cm. Carefully cut out all corners and bends, leaving a small gap between the wall and the edge of the linoleum in case of possible thermal expansion of the coating.

Depending on whether you are laying a linoleum or several in one piece, you can fix it on the floor in two ways. A single sheet of glue is not necessary. It is enough to press it with skirting boards. In the case of using several strips of linoleum, glue it around the perimeter of the room with double-sided adhesive tape or linoleum glue over the whole area of the sheets. Joints between sheets of linoleum are glued with special colorless glue for linoleum on a silicone basis.

It remains to attach the plinth , the door and the work on laying the linoleum on the wooden floor is over.
