Metal Ceramic Crown

Sooner or later, but we all face dental problems. Sometimes dental diseases can lead not only to a change in their appearance, but also to removal. As a consequence, there is a need for prosthetics to restore the dentition or aesthetic appearance. One of the most common options for prosthetics or restoration of a damaged tooth is the establishment of a metal-ceramic crown.

Indications and contraindications for the installation of the crown

In addition to restoring the dentition (prosthetics), metal-ceramic crowns can be installed in such cases:

Metal ceramic crowns are not used:

Manufacture and types of crowns

To make crowns, proceed after complete sanitation of the oral cavity, and also after removal of the pulp from the teeth that will be under the crown. This process consists of two steps:

  1. Creation of a skeleton. It uses certain alloys (cobalt-chromium, nickel-chromium, gold-palladium, gold-platinum).
  2. The application to the frame of a specialized ceramic mass in several layers, each of which is fired at high temperature.

During the application of the ceramic coating, the color of the ceramic-ceramic crown is adjusted to the color of its own teeth, determined during the removal of the molds.

Depending on the manufacturing methods used, several types of metal-ceramic crowns are distinguished:

  1. Crowns made on a stamped metal frame. In this case, cases of defects and inaccuracies in the formulation are not uncommon.
  2. Crowns made with a special milling machine. They have the most approximate structure to the individual row of teeth.
  3. Crowns, in which the ceramic coating is enlarged with a simultaneous reduction of the metal skeleton volume.

Care and service life

The doctor tells how to properly care for the oral cavity after the installation of the metal-ceramic crowns. But the basic rules of care are no different from caring for ordinary teeth, and consists in regular brushing of the teeth two or three times a day. In addition, it is recommended to take preventive examinations at the dentist once or twice a year.

The service life of metal-ceramic crowns, with observance of manufacturing techniques and proper prosthetics, is from 10 to 15 years.

The occurrence of problems and the removal of the crown

If in the process of wearing a piece of a metal-ceramic crown is broken off, and the aesthetic appearance is disturbed, there is the possibility of restoration. But it should be noted that this is a temporary solution to the problem. the integrity of the material is disrupted and this problem will again arise over time. If the chip has appeared from the inside, it is simply ground to avoid trauma to the tongue. In any case, at the first opportunity, it is recommended to replace the damaged crown.

Since the crown is fixed with a special dental cement, its removal for recovery should be performed using an ultrasonic device. Under its influence, cement is destroyed, and the crown is easily removed.
