A wonderful country Latvia is famous for its memorable architectural buildings, which include ancient churches. On the left bank of the Daugava is a church built in the style of the original old Moscow architecture - the Church of the Holy Trinity ( Riga , Agenskalns). The building is known for its rich history and stunning architecture.
Church of the Holy Trinity - history of erection
The building was built in 1985 at the place of constant worship of Orthodox priests who performed church services for merchants visiting Riga for trade. These services were held in a temporary canvas tent, since the German-Swedish government officially forbade the Orthodox faith.
The first wooden building in which the church of the Holy Trinity was clothed was assembled from pine logs brought from the Smolensk province. The building was erected in the seventies of the XVIII century with the money of Zadvinsky merchants. The interior was painted by painters of Smolensk, Riga and Pskov, and the iconostasis was created in the Fryazh manner. Because of the large spring floods of the river, the wooden building of the temple quickly fell into decay. He was twice repaired, putting in order the walls, floor and ceiling, restoring the murals, the roof and the carved porch.
Over time, the question arose about replacing the wooden building with brick. This was facilitated by the construction of the port opposite the temple, loading and unloading operations interfered with the worship. After a while, near the walls of the church was built a machine shop, which by its activity drowned parish chants. The construction of the brick building was carried out under the patronage of the Riga merchant N. Voest, the diocesan architect A. Edelson, the rector P. Mednis and the elder N.Pukova.
Church of the Holy Trinity in our days
To date, the church is ready to accommodate up to 800 parishioners, it attracts not only believers, but also tourists who want to see firsthand its original architecture. - the main bell of the church is cast from bronze and copper in the Moscow foundry N. Finlyandsky. He was raised to the bell tower of the church two months before the solemn opening of the church.
- The interior of the church deserves special attention and has such features:
