Mezaparks


Mezapark is a district located on the shore of Lake Kishzers , in the north-east of the capital of Latvia . It is famous for its excellent conditions for recreation: a park, a pond, a zoo, a venue for concerts and much more. There is a place for active and family rest.

Mežaparks it was the greenest area of ​​Riga, its history began in XIV. Here there were modest estates, houses of peasants who supplied Riga with food and fish. Even at that time settlements in the forest zone were the favorite place of rest for the local elite. When Gustav II Adolf came to these places with his army in the 17th century, it was immediately called "The Royal Forest". The modern name appeared in 1923 and is translated from the Latvian language as "Forest Park".

Simple people who earned their living by forestry and fishing lived here until the middle of the XIX century, after which in Mekhapark began to actively build country houses of wealthy people. Over half a century, more than a hundred mansions were built, some of which have survived to this day.
