Planting grapes in spring

In the spring, with the establishment of warm weather, it is time to plant seedlings and grape cuttings on household plots and gardens. In the article, we will tell you how to plant the grapes in the spring in order to receive a regular good harvest in the future.

In spring, the planting of grapes is carried out by two-year-old seedlings or cuttings. It is carried out as soon as the sap movement begins at the grape bush, this process coincides in time, with the fact that the soil warms up to 8-10 ° C at a depth of 30 cm, that is, somewhere in May.

How to plant grapes in the spring?

General sequence of actions:

  1. Preparation of landing holes.
  2. Checking the planting material for suitability.
  3. Preparation of material for planting.
  4. Landing.
  5. Care.

To check the planting material, it is necessary to make a cut on the seedlings or chibouk. Suitable for planting saplings and chibouks, in which:

If the vine on the cut has a pale green or whitish color and is not wet, it means it's dead. If the eye is on the incision, the inner part is browned, and there is no kidney, then such an eye was lost. Chubuki with dead eyes are unsuitable for planting.

On a sunny plot of land, we prepare landing ditches with a depth of 60-100 cm and a width of 100 cm or a pit (100x70 cm in size). This is best done in the autumn, but if you do not have time, then make them in February - March. Walls and the bottom of ditches or pits are loosened, after which a fertile layer of soil mixed with organic fertilizer and sand is moved to the bottom, and from the top we fall asleep with the bottom layer. Compost can be replaced with watering infusion of ash or bird droppings (500 g per 10 liters of water). At the sites of planting grapes we establish pegs.

Planting seedlings of grapes in spring

Before planting, the seedlings of the grapes must be cut in a certain way:

We put the seedling in a pit on a hillock from the ground in height of 15-20 cm, around which we spread the grape roots, then we sprinkle the earth, again we straighten it and sprinkle the upper roots with earth. Soil around the seedling is compacted and poured with two buckets of water, and the top is covered with the remaining land. Make sure that the seed head is level with the ground.

Planting chibouks of grapes in spring

In autumn, during the pruning of the grapes, cuttings of annual shoots are cut (only well-ripened vines are selected). And in spring the material is planted for further growth.

Before planting, the tested chibouks are soaked in running water for 48 hours. Be sure to cut the cuttings: above the upper kidney - at a distance of 2-3 cm oblique cut, facing away from her, and under the lower kidney - a smooth cut close to it.

At the intended location, we lower the sharp end of a stake or scrap with a diameter of 4-5 cm into the ground at the length of the chibouk. Carefully remove it, and in its place insert the chibouk so that the upper eye looks to the south and is at the level of the surface of the earth. In the hole we pour warm water, let it soak, and then compact the earth so that there are no voids. Above the eye, we make a hillock 5 cm high from moist soil. This earthen hill protects the eye from drying out, and also detains the development of escape before the appearance of roots. When inclined landing at the chibouk formed more roots. If the land is not sufficiently moist when planting, then gently pour the grapes on top with warm water.

You can plant chibouks with a shovel. To do this, fill the pit to half, put the shank in the right direction, and then fall asleep at ¾ of the depth, gently trample the ground and pour a bucket of water. When the water is absorbed, fall asleep on the ground, leaving the upper peephole level with the surface.

Further care for planted grapes consists in combating weeds, timely watering and proper formation of the bush.
