Love of art did not inherit from Raf Simons. His father was a military man, and his mother worked as a cleaner in a small restaurant. A difficult childhood and a miserable life, devoid of any chic and luxury. The Simons family could barely make ends meet. Unexpectedly for himself, he became interested in fashion and sewing when he was only 15 years old.
In 1980, after completing the industrial design courses, Linda Loppa suggested that Rafa create her own brand. This woman was the head of the Antwerp Royal Academy. Less than a year later he took up the post of professor of fashion at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and after a year and a half Simons headed the German brand Jil Sander.
