Saudi Arabia is rich in attractions: it is a country with a rich history and at the same time with widely used progressive technologies. Here, literally everywhere you can see the traces of the former greatness - and face the manifestation of the greatness of the modern. Everyone who ever sees a photo and reads a description of the sights of Saudi Arabia will certainly dream to get into this so versatile and so beautiful country.
Islamic shrines
Since more than 90% of tourists come to Saudi Arabia to visit places of worship for any Muslim, we will start with a description of the sights of Mecca , the religious capital of Saudi Arabia and the entire Islamic world.
First of all, this is, of course, the Al-Haram Mosque and the sacred Kaaba , which is located in its courtyard. According to the Qur'an, the Ka'ba was built by the angels in the place that Allah himself indicated to them, and then completed by the prophets Adam and Ibrahim (Abraham), whom the Christians also revere. It is believed that this is the first structure erected precisely to worship God. Every Muslim seeks to make a pilgrimage to the Kaaba. Today, the Reserve Mosque (Al-Haram) is the largest in the world.
In its territory are other sacred places:
- the Al-Safa and Al-Marwa hills, mentioned in the Qur'an and playing an important role during the rituals of the Hajj;
- the sacred source of Zamzam, who began to beat in the place where the angel Jibril (in the Christian tradition - Gabriel) stamped his foot;
- Cave Hira, in which, according to legend, Muhammad (Mohammed) was meditating;
- Mount Arafat, with which he uttered the last of his sermons.
The second, not less important Muslim center of the country is Medina . It is here that:
- Masjid al-Nabawi , shrine number 2 of the Muslim world, where the Prophet Muhammad is buried;
- Cuba is a mosque on the site where once the very first Muslim temple in the world was built, in the foundation of which Muhammad took part;
Note: both Mecca and Medina can only be visited by Muslim tourists. But many other shrines, such as, for example, the Al-Madi mosque or a completely new transparent mosque in the territory of the KAPSARC Research Center in Riyadh, tourists can visit regardless of religion.
Other historical sights
In Arabia, several forts survived:
- Mashmak in Riyadh built in 1865; in it you can see the traditional eastern hotel restored in its original form;
- a fort in the city of El Khufuf (the city itself also deserves attention, because it was here that Leili and Majnun died, the eastern "Romeo and Juliet";
- Forts on the islands of Tarut and Darin.
There are very interesting museums in the country: the capital's National Museum of Saudi Arabia and the open-air museum of Ed Diria , Madain Salih is an archaeological complex, whose constructions date back to the 1st century BC, the historical district of El Balad in Jeddah and others. It is interesting to visit the salt mines near the city of Abkaik - they are developed approximately 5000 years.
Natural attractions of the country
The noteworthy sights of Arabia are no less beautiful and interesting than historical ones. Those who are lucky enough to get into this rather closed country, of course, will remember the visit of such natural objects as:
- rock Edge of the World, located in the Arabian desert to the north-west of the state capital;
- Asir National Park near Jeddah;
- the Rub-al-Khali desert.
