Strawberry growing in bags

The cultivation of strawberries is carried out by many gardeners, growing a delicious and healthy berries in the beds. But the existing technology of strawberry growing in bags allows harvesting during the whole calendar year. Bags provide the opportunity to have high yields in a limited area. For example, with 10 m², you can get up to 300 kg of berries. It is better, of course, to use a greenhouse for cultivation, but it is possible to place sacks with seedlings in the country, in the garage, and even in the house. The main thing is to make the room warm and light enough.

How to grow strawberries in bags?

To grow strawberries in bags in a greenhouse, you need to get the bags themselves. You can use tare from flour or sugar (but polyethylene bags will do). Nutritional substrate and planting material are also needed.

Preparing the greenhouse

  1. To hang bags, you need to fix the hooks on the frame. You can also equip the trellis, which will serve for fastening bags-beds or install racks. Note that the bags can be placed in several tiers, it is best in staggered order that the light comes in the right amount to all the plantings. An irrigation system is installed to provide the culture with water. Suitable are ordinary 1.5-liter plastic bottles, of which several medical droppers are withdrawn. For a day for a plant in one bag you need about 2 liters of water.
  2. The next stage is the preparation of a substrate for planting strawberries in bags. Earth is preferable to choose light, weakly acidic or neutral. The berry grows best with the following soil composition: sod land, sawdust, humus and sand. Agrotechnicians recommend adding organic fertilizer, for example, overgrown Mullein . The optimum content of organic matter is 3%.
  3. When filling the container, a thick drainage layer is first created, since this kind of berries does not tolerate the overmoistening of the earth. Fertile soil is poured from above. At the end, cuts of 8-10 cm are made on both sides of the bag.
  4. As a planting material young bushes, grown from the mustaches of last year's plant, have fully developed roots. It is possible to use shrubs obtained from single-year plants. Planting material is planted in the container holes, and bags are hung on hooks.

Using simple agrotechnical technology, you can supply fresh berries not only to your family and relatives, but also to sell, which in the cold season guarantees a significant income.
