Tools for polymer clay

Who among us did not like to sculpt as a child from plasticine ? For sure, many still remember the unforgettable feeling when a small miracle is happening right in the hands, and a clump of plasticine turns into a figure of a man or an animal. To return a fairy tale to adulthood is quite simple, it is only necessary to master simple methods of sculpting from polymer clay. And in order to make this process really easy and enjoyable, you will need a set of special modeling tools for working with polymer clay.

A set of tools for polymer clay - what for?

As in any other case, when working with polymer clay, it is quite difficult for a newcomer to understand what tools and devices should be bought first, and with which it is quite possible to wait. Therefore, we list them according to the degree of need:

  1. Substrate . As a basis for modeling, any flat object having a smooth structure can be used. For example, a plastic cutting board, tile and even a sheet of paper. But the tree for these purposes is not suitable categorically, since in its microcracks will remain particles of clay. But the most convenient is still a specially designed substrate.
  2. Skalka . As with the substrate, at first polymer clay can be rolled out by any suitable object having a smooth surface - a glass bottle, a bottle of deodorant, etc. But if molding has already crossed the line between a one-time hobby and a serious hobby, it is worth buying a comfortable glass rolling pin.
  3. The knife . To separate the elements from each other you need a sharp and at the same time a thin knife that will not lubricate the pattern. The office knives of the middle price segment are best suited to this task. And to create curly edges you can buy a set of special blades, used as flexible patterns.
  4. Stacks . For sculptural modeling, you need stacks that allow you to "paint" on the clay small parts. In some cases, they can be replaced with conventional toothpicks.
  5. Molds, stamps and textural sheets . Molds made of silicone mold are simply irreplaceable when there is a need to create several similar elements. Stamps and mats allow you to give the surface of the product an unusual shape or texture.
  6. Extruder . Special syringe-extruder allows you to get interesting color effects, by pushing clay through nozzles of different shapes.
