Wildlife Sanctuary

Undoubtedly, there are many places in Uruguay that are worth visiting a tourist. One of them is a wildlife sanctuary near Piriapolis . This small town, located in the south of the country, is very attractive for tourists. Here, far from the city bustle, you can relax in the bosom of nature and see very exotic representatives of the local fauna.

What is interesting in the eco-reserve?

At the end of the last century, namely in 1980, on the site of an old abandoned quarry, it was decided to create a breeding station, which later turned into an ecological wildlife sanctuary. Here live more than 50 representatives of the animal world of the south of Uruguay.

Among such diversity are especially interesting deer and anteaters, because to meet them on the territory of Uruguay in addition to zoos can only be here. The creators of this artificial eco-system have tried to recreate the most similar conditions for the development and reproduction of animals and birds.

The reserve is located in a surprisingly beautiful place - on the slope of the Sugar Loaf Mountain. Here, the wooded slopes are replaced by picturesque bogs. Visitors are provided with special viewing platforms and paths for movement, which are masked under natural conditions. Observing the life of animals can be from a relatively close distance, without interfering with their measured life.

How to get to the eco-reserve?

Since Piriápolis is a very small town, there is practically no traffic in it. For this reason, one who wants to admire the beauties of the Wildlife Sanctuary can rent a car or take a taxi to cover the distance from the town to the park. It is only 7 km - on the road number 37 you will reach the park in just 10-15 minutes.
